UB or other OOS schools?

Gonna make my final decision in the coming days. Should I attend University at Buffalo in NY for a little more than 8k a year or should I go to big name OOS colleges like Penn State, Ohio State, UConn, or UMaryland and most likely take on 70-100k debt? (obv not just me taking loans) Also like to throw in that I want to pursue computer science or certainly some kind of engineering. Thanks for any comments.

I would not take on that kind of debt for an OOS state school. UB is good for engineering/CS and people who go there seem to like the school – I’d head off to UB and stay away from all those loans.

UB is a hidden jewel of a school Making up for that kind of differential in sunk cost is questionable. You want that on your parents’ heads?

Is the difference 100k-4x8k=68k (or $38k), or the 70-100k debt is in additional to the $8k/yr you need to pay otherwise? That would make a big difference. Anyway, even if it is the former case, your debt would be 30-150% more than national average.

If you were talking names like UVA or UCLA, I’d consider out of state. But for those I’d stick with U Buffalo

How would you take on that debt? As a student you are limited to $27K in student loans. Everything else would be on your parents. Are they willing to take on that debt for you?
