UBC Applied Science or UIUC Chemical Engineering SUGGESTIONS PLS

Hi,
I am a student from Shanghai that holds a Canadian passport. I’ve been admitted to both UIUC Chemical Engineering and UBC’s Applied Science Program.

I am really struggling between the two. UIUC definitely has a strong reputation for Engineering in the states or even across the world, and it is also way more competitive compared to UBC’s engineering when it comes to admissions. However, UIUC’s chemical engineering isnt in LAS, so that’s kinda weird, but i heard it has the resource of both LAS and Engineering.

But I am also inclined to UBC due to its amazing environment (UIUC isnt that good in terms of environment), way cheaper tuition fee and also that I have relatives and also a good friend attending as well that also will be taking applied science.

Therefore, I am really struggling. I don’t know which school will help give me the best job opportunities once I graduate…
Please give some suggestions Thanks !!!

Brother in law(Chinese) did his doctorate in Chem E at UIUC. He did well and is now in Silicon valley. It’s not glamorous, but is an excellent Engineering school.

UBC is pretty strong in Engineering/Applied Science also. Certainly a degree from UBC holds weight, both in Canada and internationally. AS you know, Vancouver has a large Chinese population/culture, great eating, and is a beautiful city. Champaign Urbana won’t have those “fringe benefits”.

Unless your family is wealthy, or you feel strongly about UIUC, I would think about UBC. The comfort level for you would probably be stronger there, and the cost would be a pittance compared to UIUC. Save your money, eat Dim Sum, and walk on the beach to relax. Could be worse, no?

Remember that UBC can be pretty demanding. Don't think you can waltz your way through it.
