@Rsujung I’m sure that this is more propitious than a waitlist. I think it could indicate not making it through a select batch of applications.
Just curious to know what your first and second choices are. If your second choice is less competitive, you will probably be accepted considering that you haven’t been rejected from your first choice.
@DartMonkey93 I am trying to stay positive, but I just don’t see how is this situation different from a waitlist one…I’m so bummed @-)
Vancouver campus is my first choice. Both Arts. The person told me that my second choice will be evaluated and the decisions will be out mid-April. Fingers crossed!

@Rsujung If your second choice is Okanagan Arts, then you should have a very good chance to get in. UBCO is considerably less competitive than UBCV; not being rejected to UBCV should mean being accepted to UBCO.
@DartMonkey93 International economics. given my lousy stats i knew i’d have no chance getting into Sauder so I figured i’ll transfer over from vancouver school of economics. I am seriously going to consider going if Vancouver campus accepts me but for now I have a school (accounting) that’s going to fund 50% of my tuition in new york.
@Rsujung Okanagan campus isn’t that bad from I heard. People don’t like it because it’s cold; the academics still aren’t bad.
However, I understand that it is important to save money.
Regardless, if you insist on going to UBC, though, you can transfer from one faculty or building to another more easily than transferring from one university to another. In addition, if another university has an exchange program, you may visit UBC.
@DartMonkey93 I appreciate you sharing your insight. Yeah UBC Okanagan is still one of the top in my choice of schools, it’s just that I spent part of my childhood in Vancouver and have very fond memories of that city. Besides the personal aspect, accessibility plays a huge role as well since I am flying in from another country. More firms are probably located in Vancouver too which helps in terms of internships/employment. Nevertheless Kelowna seems like a beautiful city but I do hope I get in to the Vancouver campus. Now that I have been accepted to the Okanagan one, do you think it indicates an increase in the chances of being accepted to Vancouver campus?
For those who have not travelled much in BC: SFU is about 40 min East of Vancouver Downtown; UBC-V is 20 minutes West. Both are in pretty suburban settings (peninsula or top of the hill) and neither has direct train service.
UBC-O is 400 km from Vancouver and it is in the suburbs of a smaller city (~200k people) plus driving the Coquihalla (5) or 97C in the winter (~6 months) could literally kill you as they hit elevations of 1200 and 1730 m respectively: been there and done that. I was admitted to the faculty of applied science!!
I only have one year of Chem, and I did poorly in it, but I was then diagnosed with ADHD, and I believe they took this into account.
-1520 new SAT (770 M/ 750 EBRW)
-3.96 relevant GPA
-loads of really strong and related ECs
-I think my essays made me seem like a good fit for an international community
-American student
I’m hoping they give me a scholarship, otherwise I’ll be getting a summer job or something, this was my first choice!!
@Rsujung Well, unfortunately, it is too late to apply to other universities.
But Okanagan is mainly disliked because it’s cold. The teaching quality is up to scratch with UBCV.
I’m not going to ask about income, but I am going to emphasize that it is important to save money.
I may be biased towards UBC because my father went there, I applied there, and my family is near there, but I will reiterate that it is YOUR choice, not mine.
My suggestion would be to compare the two universities and find the pros and cons of each. That way, you will have an informed and impartial decision.
Hey guys !
Accepted to bachelor of applied science program!
I am an international student from the Middle East. I just want to know if any of you know how the engineering at ubc is? Is it hard to get in? And are the coop programs good?
No, haven’t accepted my offer yet. But I mistakenly also put a different major under Arts as my second choice… clearly did not think this through very well. Do you know if there is any way around that? @DartMonkey93
Also, another question: If I haven’t received financial aid yet, does that mean I’m not going to get any? (was accepted on 1/23)
