UBC student hoping to transfer - Do you think I'll get in?

Hi, I'm currently just finished my first year of studies at UBC. I studied engineering for my first year and currently have a 3.94 GPA (out of 4.0). I am wanting to transfer to McGill Nursing for NEXT year. I know it is early to be asking but I'm just wondering what other people think of my chances. I know on McGill's website is says the minimum is around a 3.0-3.3 GPA but for some reason I just don't feel very reassured.

The thing is, UBC doesn't offer a lot of the courses that I need as prerequisites into the nursing program at McGill (whether they are lacking the lab portion or are just not equivalent to McGill's). I can technically still be admitted into the program I believe with a minimum of two calculus courses and two physics courses with labs (which I have) and then completing the rest of the prerequisites once I am at McGill. However, I want to save time and instead of wasting this year I am thinking of taking courses at some local universities (that are much less well known and much less prestigious) in order to complete the prerequisites I'd need to enter U1 of nursing. I don't know how this will look to McGill though if they see me attending multiple universities in the year. I also don't know if this will sit well with UBC.

Anyways, if I am able to keep up my GPA (or hopefully improve it a bit?) do you think i'd likely be admitted into the program? Do you think it's a better idea to leave things as they are now instead of trying to complete the prerequisites on the side at other local universities? Thanks!

If I remember correctly UBC uses a percentage scale and which when converted translates to a 4.33 as the upper bound.

What is your percentage average exactly?

You should check directly with McGill admissions for nursing and confirm that they will accept the required courses from the schools you’re planning to attend. It seems unlikely that some small unknown schools would have the prerequisite courses available and UBC wouldn’t. Keep in mind that in most parts of the country, particularly in the eastern provinces, many of those small unknown BC schools, often religious-affiliated, are not recognized as accredited schools. You want to make sure of this prior to wasting time, effort and money attending there. There are very specific requirements for nursing, and admissions is selective. Make a few phone calls to McGill and confirm what you’re planning to do is going to give you the desired outcome.

My percentage average is 89.3%. I calculated my GPA out of 4.0 the McGill way though (I believe).

I’ve been referring to the equivalency table for math and science courses at McGill and the universities that I’m planning to take courses at are listed on the table and apparently the courses are equivalent. This could be outdated though and I have contacted the course equivalency people at McGill to confirm, however they have not replied. The reason UBC’s courses are no equivalent are because there are very slight differences in the material and some of the courses are lacking lab components. Thank you though! Do you know if nursing is more selective than other faculties for transfer applicants?
