UBC vs. USD

I am deciding where I should go to college next year and need some help. I have narrowed my choices down to UBC (University of British Columbia) and USD (University of San Diego). I am a canadian citizen so UBC is ~$19k/year. For USD I got a $25k scholarship and and in the honors program so it would cost ~$33k/year. Money is really not a huge issue at this point. I plan on being prelaw and majoring in history/political science but this is subject to a BUNCH of change.

Anyone have advice?

Are you from BC or elsewhere in Canada? This is a rain versus sun decision. UBC does have the third best law school in Canada. However, I’ve heard that Canadian uni’s are more traditional in their grading and not subject to the grade inflation of the US. Where are you planning on going to law school? In the US or Canada?

Ya where do you plan to go for law school? in US or Canada ? There is a very high grade deflation in Canada(due to tradition grading method as above poster mentioned).

This will make your grades look like crap compared to grades in USA which means you will have close to none chance of getting accepted to a top law school. You need to decide very wisely.

I currently live in the US and plan on going to law school here. I’m a dual citizen.

Did you get accepted to another cheaper or better college in US ? If not, USD should be obvious choice.

I got into Boston College (~$55k/year), Northeastern honors (~$35k/year), University of Washington (~26k/year) and Loyola Marymount University (~$38k/year).

Choose either Northeastern or UWash- Seattle. For 26k, University of Washington looks like a great option.

Why? I’d like to know your rationale.

I think he’s just looking at the price tags and eliminating UBC. Have you been to any of these places. UBC has a hugh chunk of Vancouver as its campus on Point Grey. However, it’s even larger in enrollment than UDubb. Most Americans don’t know how good UBC is, but the majority will reason that UDubb is better. IMO, Vancouver is the most scenic city on the West Coast, but it rains more there than in Seattle. USD has a reputation as being a party school and not being difficult academically. BC you have to eliminate because for $20K less you can have Northeastern honors.
