UC Admissions Based on GPA?

I’ve heard from a friend that UC admissions are mainly based on GPA. I was wondering if this is a myth or not. I have an unimpressive GPA but am confident in achieving fairly high standardized scores. Would my GPA affect my chances?

generally speaking, yes the gpa is the most important factor. other factors like extra cirriculars, test scores, and essays can help compensate for a lower gpa, but academic grades in high school are foremost. hopefully your gpa is not too low, as low gpa + high test scores tends to tell admissions that you are smart, but just dont like working hard.

the UC-gpa (based on your transcript) is the #1 criteria for admissions, absent extenuating circumstances.

You need to look at the individual schools too dude. Some use a point system which will require other important factors as well.

No it is not a myth, and yes it will hurt you. Will it keep you out of the top UCs? Not necessarily. But it is the most important criteria and your chances go down quite a bit. Sorry. But like I said, try anyway because you never know.

Luckily they do judge your GPA in context with applicants from your own school

Yes I find that plausible...to an extent.

I am in the same situation. GPA: 3.1; score on PSAT: 1800.

hye my guess would be that you're going to get into santa cruz, merced, and riverside....thats about it...oh and maybe a miracle for davis

or a miracle for uci
