Hey guys, I’m freaking out. Im a junior right now and i want to get into UC Davis. But sophomore year i got a D in Chem H the first semester and i plan to make that up with summer school. But on the whole my UC gpa is a 3.5 Weighted! and i know that is extremely low and im really worried about that. I have a 2250 on my SAT( i took it once) and i have mediocre extra curriculars but i plan to build on tht more and i volunteer a lot. PLS tell me honestly if i can get into an of the UC’s other than Riverside, Merced. Also what can i do to to improve my situation. Thank you in advance!
Getting a D can be a deal breaker for UC, yep.
i also have a personal story as to why i have bad grades. i plan to adrress that in my essay but not as a sob story
A D grade is not necessarily a deal breaker for UC (or CSU), but the D grade invalidates the course from being able to fulfill a-g requirements unless repeated with a C or higher grade, and does count in your GPA.
A 3.5 UC-weighted GPA is fairly low for Davis, according to http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/davis/freshman-profile/index.html .
Will my sat score help though
hazelsparks0, yes your SAT score will help you, but it sounds like from what UCBalumnus says, you do need to make sure that your a-g requirements have been fulfilled, or else NOTHING will help you.
Use this semester to smoke all of your classes and bring that gpa up. That will help you more than anything. No sense focusing on what is now in the past.
I am taking a Sumer course to recover the d .
That’s very good!
And also my gpa would be a 3.59 max by the end of my junior year considering if I get straight a’s this semester
So I guess it depends on my sat, ec and personal statement
Yes, all you can do is put your very best foot forward, starting today. Nobody on earth can offer you better advice than that, as (1) the past can’t be changed, and (2) nobody has a crystal ball re: the future.
So all the UCs are competitive but Davis, Riverside and Merced are slightly less competitive (compared to, say, UCLA), so I’d say all hope is not lost! It’s great that you’re “curing” your D this summer–that’s essential. Your SAT is very good and I think will help a lot. Don’t stress too much, do well in that class this summer, and work on hitting your essays out of the park. I actually know someone that reads applications for UC Davis and she says essays are super important.
Ok I’ll make sure my essays r out of this world
how accurate is rogerhub ( those who got in davis)? http://rogerhub.com/uc-undergraduate-admissions-calculator/
@hazelsparks0: The roger hub calculator is as accurate as long as you report your grades correctly. Older son is a 2nd year at UCD with a UC GPA of 4.2 but ACT 26 when he applied 2 years ago. GPA is weighed more heavily, but like other posters stated, it is great you are making up the D, but your GPA will be what it is… too late to go back to change it. You can only concentrate on writing great essays and addressing your low GPA and hope for the best.
You can never predict accurately admissions, so just apply widely and you still end up in a great school.
