For anyone thinking/planning appeals to UCs. Thought I should start a thread so we can help each other out, get information, ask questions etc. And potentially be of use to future appealers in coming years.
So for some reason my post isn’t showing up in the main page, so here it is for now:
Hey people! Would greatly appreciate any help.
tl;dr
Applied as l&s CS (comp sci), was denied. Should I, and is it possible, to appeal with a change of major to econ(have all major prep complete and have 4.0 in econ), or should I stick with CS in my appeal and provide additional information about some E.Cs I didn’t mention in the app. Or a combination of both?
Full Story:
I applied as a UC to UC transfer to Berkeley as a L&S CS major. I’m not currently a CS major at my UC and its pretty much impossible to switch into CS, so I thought that was a good reason for transfer. I’m interested in both CS and Econ, and so I have taken classes in both subjects (5 in econ, 7-8 in CS). Here are my stats:
Overall GPA: 3.78-3.8 not sure exactly
CS Major Prep/GPA: Complete/3.88
Econ Major Prep/GPA: Complete/4.0
I decided to apply CS instead of Econ as I prefer CS, and have pretty good ECs for CS while none for Econ. But I am also fine majoring in econ. I also believe I have a much better chance of getting into Econ, as I have a perfect major GPA, and its acceptance rate is 20% versus 7% for CS.
So my question is whether in my appeal I should/could request to be considered as an Economics Applicant. I feel I can do a good job explaining my passion for Economics, and how it is related to CS, and why Berkeley. My worry is that this isn’t even allowed and they’ll throw away my appeal immediately. My other option for appeal is to just stick with CS. I put a few high school ECs/ Awards on there but I found out later they don’t care much for HS stuff. So I could include some college ECs and Awards I won related to CS I didn’t put in my original application although none were too impressive. I could also update them on one good EC I put in my application ( I started a tech startup and received funding a few months ago). But I’m afraid this isn’t enough.
What do you all think? I welcome any input.
