On the UC application the process for self-reporting grades is very confusing for out-of-state applicants. I'm not sure whether to mark some of my courses Honors or Non Honors. The directions say that all ninth grade courses are Non Honors, but then it says somewhere else that all honors courses taken outside of California should be marked as Honors.

Then, as far as labeling courses, I've taken courses such as gym and journalism, but they say not to put those under college prep electives, even though there's no where else to put them.

First of all, I'm out of state, and I can sympathize. They make it very confusing for us. I personally marked all ninth-grade honors courses as NH (non-honors) and of course my honors 10th grade English course was also NH (as said in directions). Unless its a ninth grade honors or tenth grade honors English course, your honors classes are honors classes, mark them as such.

Second, I'm from Illinois (gym is required all 4 years of HS) and there is no spot for Gym or several of my other non-"a-g" classes. Don't worry about them not being on your transcript b/c UC doesn't care about your physical education. You can mention such gym requirements as restrictions against taking actual classes. Do this in your personal statement, if you are so inclined...

You may want to read the attachede link for info on the application and selection process... including honors classes and the whole "A-G class" criteria. It may make more sense to you afterwards...

I have 2 quick questions.
1. They say not to list World Hist as a honor class, but what if it is consider an AP class? Do I label it NH or AP?
2. What is Computer Science consider as? Math? Lab Science? Prep Elective?

^ If you took AP world history then you label it as an AP course. For computer science, that goes in the "g" category, which is college prep electives.
