<p>I'm an incoming senior and I have yet to fulfill the UC art requirement. On the UC website, the art requirement requires one to have taken either a yearlong UC compatible art course, 3 semesters of an art course at a community college, or a 3, 4, or 5 on AP Art history, AP Studio, or AP visual, etc. I suck at drawing so the only choice for me, which is available online, (and not at my school) would be AP Art history. I have a couple questions. </p>
<p>First, when the UC requirement says I can take 3 semesters of a community college art class, does that include online schools such as FLVS? It's too late for me to sign up for a community college art course as I am already a second semester junior. But I want to have a weighted art class (AP Art History) so that I can have a 5.0 senior year. My school does not currently offer AP Art History and I can't draw, so I don't want to risk my 5.0 and take, say, AP Studio Art. The 3, 4, or 5 on an AP art class seems a bit risky as well :/ I don't want to not graduate from high school.</p>
<p>Second, say my school is not compatible with FLVS. Would I still be eligible for the UC requirement or would my school transcript be the only source of evidence for my participation in the yearlong art online course? Some say I would only need to write the course I have taken under each requirement on the UC app. Is that true?</p>
<p>On a side note, I will be visiting my counselor soon and asking whether FLVS is compatible with my high school, but he's currently a bit busy with organizing semester 2 schedules.</p>

<p>A “semester unit” in the context of college courses is a measure of credit and workload of the college course. Most college courses are 3 or 4 units of credit. A typical course load for a full time college student is 15 units.</p>
<p>A quarter system college has 10 week terms, while a semester system college has 15 week terms, so a quarter unit is worth 2/3 of a semester unit.</p>
<p>The way the UC requirement is written, it looks like you just need one course of at least 3 units at a semester system college, or 4 units at a quarter system college.</p>

<p>A semester system college has two 15 week terms and a shorter (usually 8 week) summer session during the year (normal academic year is two semesters in fall and spring). A quarter system college has four 10 week terms during the year (normal academic year is three quarters in fall, winter, and spring). The college’s web site should have its calendar.</p>

<p>They mean the GPA used for determining admission to UC. I.e. your high school GPA in 10th and 11th grades; college courses taken during that time are included with +1 (like honors and AP high school courses).</p>
<p>So if you take the art class in senior year, it will not contribute to the GPA that UC uses for admissions (but you still have to do well enough to avoid getting the admission offer rescinded).</p>
<p>Your counselor should be able to explain this in more detail.</p>

<p>Not when taken senior year. UC gpa only counts courses taken thru Junior year. But strength of senior schedule is one factor in admissions, so a taking a college class during your senior year is a plus, just like another AP course.</p>
<p>But thing is, I’m planning on taking Calculus 3 (since I will be finished with Calc BC by the end of this year). I’m concerned that I won’t have sufficient time. UCs are not my top choice; private universities are. That’s why I’m still kind iffy and want a 5.0 I was also planning on aiming for Valedictorian/Salutatorian. However, I don’t want to drive to two colleges after school, get home pretty late, and slack off on homework.</p>
<p>I think I’m just going to take an unweighted art class…I want to party senior year, not work! =]</p>
