@Katdawg I was wondering the same thing…a couple people on the other UCB thread said they’ve received one.

Btw, do you mind writing your transfer statistics for everyone to see? The outline format is on the first page.

@everyone on this thread…if you have a sense of who I am by now, you’ll have noticed that I’m a bit paranoid with regards to this admissions process and like to be as comprehensive as possible in all aspects. That being said…I should be studying for a BioPsyc exam that is two hours away, but instead I’m doing THIS!

I just called UCB admissions office and spoke with another woman, this time different than yesterday’s.

This is what I asked:
“Im a transfer student and Ive applied for the fall 13 term and currently awaiting the admissions notification.
I have a question that I hope you guys can address:
So, Ive been very anxious and stressed awaiting the admissions decisions and in order to gain some peace of mind, I called in yesterday and spoke with a lady who was kind enough to give me some admissions statistics relevant to my major.
Ive applied to L&S as a psychology major.
Is there any way you could give me some sort of general statistic of the average GPA that youve noted has been admitted thus far in the application process?
The lady told me that the avg. GPA admitted has been 3.6 for Psychology but Im afraid she may have misunderstood my question and interpreted it as the avg. GPA applied. Do you know if 3.6 is actually the avg admitted so far?”

She asked if she could put me on hold…and did, for about two minutes.

She came back and said “don’t quote me, but I think the information that the lady gave you is correct.”

So I asked:
“The reason I though she misinterpreted my question is because it seems a little low relative to UCLA’s avg. admitted last year to the major.”

She said:
“That’s normal. UCLA selects students off slightly different criteria than we do; they weight GPA a little heavier than us, we like to see demonstrated interest in the major as well as major prep completion, among other factors of the sort”.

That’s why Berkeley has us fill out the supplemental applications in addition to the Transfer Academic Update – to be able to see specifically, our major prep completion/grades, grade trends, etc.

I think this is good news!

@JeffJenks Hats off to your due dilligence! Everyone in this thread really appreciates it. That is some great information indeed!

Heres my stats:

UC Transferrable GPA: 3.93
Completed Major Pre-reqs: No, I am missing my second biological science
Completed IGETC: By this semester
Number of Years at CC: 2
TAP, EOPS: No TAP
Extra Curricular: Nothing special, I’m a waitress and have had the same job for 3 years
Personal Statement: I don’t think it was anything special…

So yeah I wasn’t expecting to get into Berkeley because I am missing a pre-req. But hopefully this email was a good thing?

@CQBanana Here’s a picture of the email

@JeffJenks That is exciting information, indeed! Thanks for being so informative, I appreciate it!

Is there anyway we can check our financial package at CAL without the calnet id? or can we get a calnet id any chance?

Does anyone know what the financial aid email is? Some people have received one and are raving about it?

@JeffJenks

Thanks alot for that. At least you are proactive compared to others.

@jmanriquez27

Just found out that the reason why people are getting requests for financial aid information is because they most likely did not fully complete their FAFSA. This includes those who have marked will file and have used previous years information. If you were responsible and made sure everything was completed (including getting the latest taxes filed and inputting the information) then you have nothing to worry about.

Nooo problem…What good would it do if I kept this info all to myself!

@jmanriquez27, I didn’t include this in my previous post because I didn’t want to bring anyone’s hopes down, but since it could benefit everyone to know (so that you don’t get discouraged)…I asked the lady at the admiss. office about the finaid thing and she said that it’s totally unrelated to the admissions process; the finaid office is completely unaware of the admissions decisions and are most probably only asking because of an error, or something of the sort, that occurred while completing their FAFSA.

@Katdawg, your application still looks pretty strong with that GPA; regardless of what the admiss officer said, I’m going to guess that such a high GPA will outweigh trivial extra curricular activity (but I could be entirely wrong – basically, just don’t be discouraged)

Anybody else here double majoring with psychology? I applied as a different major but have already finished all the prereqs for psych and heard that double majoring in the L&S isn’t too much trouble, as long as you have the prereqs done.

@JeffJenks & @themadman Thank you now I can sleep tonight.
What are my chances @JeffJenks?

@themadman, have you already completed the pre-reqs for the other major, or close to it? If so, I don’t see a reason why you shouldnt. I went to CalDay and they said that is a strong recommendation if you’re deciding to double major…also, if that is the path you wanna take, to be sure that both of the majors are totally different. I’m not sure why, I think they were trying to argue that it’s just redundant to have two majors that are really similar.

@jmanriquez27, sounds sexy. I honestly think you should have no worries.

@JeffJenks Thank you for the comment on my credentials and much love for the research and being proactive by following up on the Fin Aid email. I feel it with your biopsych exam, I have an anatomy exam as well, but can not focus with this admission hype

The Other thread is hoot I swear my blood pressure skyrockets because everyone is going crazy. Least the Psych thread is more relaxed and civilized. If people from the other thread were at Berkeley right now I bet Sproul hall would have already been up in flames

@Jeff Jenks, I was at CAL day too. Did you attend the transferring into Berkeley info session that started at 1:30 in the Cesar Chavez center, Specifically I believe it was room 101.

UC Transferrable GPA: 4.0 (although, who knows after calc this semester…)

I really want to double major in sociology, too. All reqs completed but both are impacted majors…

@jmanriquez i’m actually not sure…I know I’m missing quite a few though. I mainly focused on UCLA’s major reqs because that’s my top choice. I got that email telling me that they need financial documents but on another thread people are saying we don’t need to worry about that until/unless we are actually admitted. I don’t know what they would need from me though. all the other schools I got into didn’t ask me for any financial documents o.o.

UC Transferrable GPA: 4.0
Lower-Div. Major Prep GPA (Psyc major only): 4.0

Work Experience: 25-30hrs a week plus tutoring
Personal Statement (Self Score; + x/10) : 7

The fact that Cal is not all about numbers stresses me out. I don’t have any ECs that stand out :/

@bananabanana123 I am missing the chem/Physics prerequisite for UCLA.Because Berkeley is my top school and there was no way I was about to balance Chem and Anatomy this semester on top of work and all of the extracurricular that I am doing. I have a feeling that I will get rejected from UCLA because I am missing that one prerequisite. Does anyone have any idea what happens if you are missing one prerequisite, although I feel like I have a strong application?

@jmanriquez27, I was not at that workshop! But I was at the “Life as a Psychology Major” workshop from 12-1, were you there? I thought it was great; learned a lot about what to do once we’re at Cal (IFFFFF), basically research-wise.
And I’m sorry, I’m not really sure about the UCLA pre-req thing…idk if they require all of them to be done prior to enrollment at their campus or if they’re like Berkeley and allow you to complete the remaining ones your first sem…
