UC Berkeley 2017 Transfer Thread

@goldencub No, but I know of freshmen who got in off the wait list. She was from the area and wanted to go to Berkeley (as opposed to other UC’s) because she has family in the Bay Area. If you have a similarly compelling reason for why you want to go to Berkeley specifically, you should include that in your appeal. Wish you the best!

@stressedmeg I also just got accepted for Society & Environment! Are you gonna be at the CNR orientation next Friday? I’d love to meet up!

@IvyLeague2
I am from University of Michigan Computer Science Engineering.
For ECs, I was in several research, and got some awards from Engineering department. Also, several club activities in Data analysis.
I am actually transferring after my freshman year
How about you?

@Deadhardy You would rather be rejected than get in and start a semester later than everybody else? Seems a little dramatic.

I’m sitting at work crying tears of joy. Congrats to all, and for those who were not accepted today, don’t fret or think any less of yourself! Everything happens for a reason <3

Any accepted English majors out there (well, we all were admitted to the college of L&S, but you know what I mean)?

Wait theres an admitted transfers orientation??

@Twenmi I know, right? Getting accepted at a later date is better than getting outright rejected. It might mean that maybe they don’t have room now, but they might if some people graduate later that fall to make room for the spring admits.

@IvyLeague2 I somewhat understand your frustration for OOS, since I got rejected for SLO Business Admin w/ a 4.0 because I didn’t go to Cuesta (a local CC in that area). CSUs don’t really do a holistic review because it’s your GPA and some coursework and that’s it. SLO asked how many hours and whether or not you held a leadership position, but they didn’t ask what exactly your ECs are.

But at the same time, priority for locals and in-staters is somewhat reasonable because it’s part of the purpose that the UCs and CSUs serve, which is to provide an opportunity for education to residents of California. I wish you luck in whatever school you decide to apply to in the future.

I’d give my left arm to be able to attend Cal even if it’s this spring. Dramatics ftw.

Anyone taking summer classes?

Hey everyone! As a 2017 spring admit myself I just wanted to say that if Berkeley is your top choice I wouldn’t worry too much about the spring start. The fall is what you make of it. (Personally I took other classes and got another AA degree while working).
If you’ve got another offer that gives you a fall start, that choice is really up to you. I’m enjoying myself personally, but I understand the conflicted feelings over it. You’re really not starting “late” or behind, though, or that’s not how it’s been shown to me. I’m also going to be a Golden Bear Orientation leader so I hope to see some of you guys soon! I know what an exciting time this is for everyone, and I wish you all the best of luck in finding the school that’s right for you!

ADMITTED AND I HAVE NO IDEA HOW OMG

Major GPA: Probably around a 3.6-3.7?

Accepted: UCSB, UCSC, Davis, UCLA, AND NOW BERKELEY!
Denied: None I’m so confused.

So hi someone help me! Now that I got into Cal I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M GOING TO DO. I 100% did not think this was gonna happen, I already SIR’ed to UCLA too cause I was like “Dream come true!” But I got into UCLA for American Lit and Culture cause like I have a low GPA so I didn’t even think I had a shot at Berkeley considering I applied under English. But now I got accepted for the Fall and everything! If anyone wants to offer advice or opinions please do I’m so conflicted right now lol

ACCEPTED OFFICIALLY! 3.71 GPA --> Microbial Bio Major

@goldencub Thank you very much! I will probably have some more questions in the upcoming days if you don’t mind

Did not get into Berkeley but inspired and proud of all I see on here. Industrious students with stellar GPAs, impeccable extracurriculars, and dogged drive! Since the beginning, humans have longed for safety, justice and a fair opportunity to make it and this nation embodies all of these longings. America in the 21st century is the zenith of human civilization and it is amazing to see so many people seeking to obtain skills to be exceptional individuals and stewards over all that America has to offer. Everyone on here sees the olympic gold of going to a great university and is racing to be the best they can be and beyond to win the gold and many have succeeded. This thread makes me proud to be an American. I just leave some of my favorite words from one of our Founding Fathers, John Adams, “Statesmen . . . may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone, which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand.” Skills alone fall flat. Virtues are necessary to be become great citizens to sustain the greatness of America in the 21st century. I hope everyone here will be both virtuous and skilled!

English major here!!! I got accepted!!

Accepted!

@FishoMath definitely Berkeley. I might even see you in class

Can we apply for spring??

I only say that because I was accepted to UCLA for the Fall, so I think it would be stupid to postpone my career for Cal. I really wish there was a way to appeal for a Fall admit, I know several people accepted for Fall who won’t be going.
