UC Berkeley 2017 Transfer Thread

GUYS, check your MAP portal, they updated it with the form!!!

Yep, I just got an email from the College of Chemistry (ChemE here) that they were up. Bummer they took Statics and Circuits off of the major prereqs this year since I have taken those now.

I won’t be finishing my IGETC until the end of next semester but the update is asking for grades in order to be finished, should i just put n/a or something?

You put IP for In Progress.

Do the major transfer pathway requirements have to be completed prior to Spring? On the TAU it says “If you followed a UC Transfer Pathway and completed all of the Pathway course expectations for your intended major, please indicate which Pathway.” I have one more course to complete, but it will be taken in Spring.

^^ I had the same question as mmkelly1. It states requirements must be done by the Spring term prior to enrollment, but the options state “I have completed__”, there is no “I will complete_” which is why I was also a little confused. So we should just be putting in our courses, with Spring 2017 as the term, and IP as the grade?

I completed two semesters of Spanish with a grade of C or better in high school, but I had to retake second semester Spanish in community college to fulfill my major pre-reqs (they wouldn’t let me skip to third semester).

Should I check “I have completed 2 years of the same foreign language in high school with letter grades of “C” or higher for each semester” or “I have fulfilled this requirement by completing college level coursework” and report the class?

@jmartca Yes, to my understanding. Check with a counselor, but at the top of my Major Pre-reqs they say to put IP for in progress and I have one course I put Spring 2017 for the term.

@poledo22 check I have completed 2 years of the same foreign language

@plsacceptmeUCs nope! As long as you’re finished by end of spring, you’re good.

Is it normal that course titles are being cut off? Like, it’s introduction ot physical anthropology but the box can’t type words after Physical…;; also is it normal that we choose 3 courses for arts humanities and other 3 courses for social and behavior science section?

Man their IGETC form sucks.

@Makuc Yes. I would put Phys. Anthrophology if you can fit it in. I had a lot of courses I had to abbreviate, so I tried to abbreviate them in the most logical way possible like Comp.MethodsforEngr or Ordinary Diff. Equations. I am having the same issue so I imagine they use another method of verifying the course numbers than just our course title information.

@annbern thank you so much!

Hello! I am working on the UCB MAP Transfer Forms, and I have a few questions I’m hoping someone can answer.

Form: General Education/Breadth w/ IGETC

  1. For the Physical Science area, I completed a Chemistry lecture which had a combined lab section, equaling a 5-unit course. I marked the box that says “I have completed a Physical Science lecture combined with a lab course.” They have a space for “Physical Science Course” and a space for “Physical Science Lab, if applicable.” I have entered the 5-unit Chemistry lecture under “Physical Science Course,” but do I need to enter in the same course again under “Physical Science Lab, if applicable?” I also did the same for the Biological Science area with a combined Biology lecture + lab 5-unit course.
  1. For Area 3C, I am using an IB exam to fulfill the requirement; as they do not have an option for using IB exam scores to satisfy IGETC, I checked the box which denotes that the requirement was fulfilled via an AP exam. In the additional comments, I further went on to explain what exam I took, the score I received, and that my CC has granted credit for IGETC. Is this adequate? Also, I am well aware that the UC accepts AP exam scores for IGETC, but I have not found any UC-official statements that IB can be used for IGETC. Would anyone know if IB exams are handled in the same manner as AP exams when it comes to credit at the UC?

Thank you for your help!

Hello, I’m applying for UCB next fall in Chemical Engineering, and I’m out of state from a 4-year university. I’m having a problem in Math 54 (Linear Algebra & Differential Equation) which equal to 2 separate courses at my current college. I’m missing Differential Equation now (I take Linear Algebra this spring). Does it hurt my application.

Also, the basic requirements of UC Transfer include 2 transferable courses in English composition. But the minimun coursework for Chemical Engineering only need English R1A. Can anyone explain for me this?

Thank you for your help!

Hi guys quick question. I’m applying as a Sociology major and this requirement on their website is confusing: Of the 120 total, 60 units in L&S courses. This includes courses offered by L&S and courses offered outside L&S that are included in any L&S major program or approved for credit for an L&S breadth requirement.

Does that mean the 60 units also includes the classes we are transferring over? Like the pre-req sociology classes I’m taking right now at CCC? Or are they saying that only the L&S classes at Berkeley count towards the 60 unit requirement?

Does anyone know whether or not we will still have to take non-major courses after transferring? Or, will we only have upper division major courses to complete?
