Also, I forgot to mention that I have 4 Ws!

@laccstudent I believe that having a 4.0 GPA for Anthropology major is GREAT! Since you do have 4 Ws… I would recommend you talk about that in your application and try to give them a good reason for why you have them. Don’t leave it for UCB to figure the W’s out later.

Hey everyone! Not sure if you guys knew about this or not… but I discovered a page on the University of California website. The page gives you the idea of the GPA range and number of applicants in the pool for each major. This is a great way to get a view on where you stand GPA wise and how many students you might be competing against for a place in your specific major. Hope this helps!!

Yup the link is also stickied at the top of this very forum.

@caliguy925 I will talk about them for sure. Hopefully, they will forgive those Ws.

They don’t care much about Ws. Just provide an explanation for them (but even that probably isn’t necessary).

@goldencub Right… and also I should explain why I am missing one major requirement. (Will ful-fill next Spring)

@laccstudent You don’t really need to explain why you’re missing a major pre-req (if you’re taking it in spring). They’ll see that you have it planned for the spring in your coursework.

@briank82 Thanks, sounds like a plan. I bet they have a page to report your Winter/Spring planned schedule.

They do. You’ll report all the coursework you’ve ever taken, including what’s in progress and what is planned.

How much do you guys think Berkeley weighs improvement in grade trends?

@badmintongirl Berkeley definitely likes upward trends. It’s a good thing to talk about in your personal statement prompts (or whatever they’re called now.)

@“Just a litte nervous”

Any place with a lot of intelligent people is going to lean liberal. Not sure why that would matter as Berkeley is a great place.

Universities in general lean liberal, but Berkeley has a reputation of being much further out on the left than most other universities.

@agentxjp It makes a difference in how the campus culture and atmosphere is like. Maybe not as much now, but USC is known for being a party school and a friend of mine visited a decade or so ago and there was a huge frat vibe that came off the campus in general. He said more so than any other place he visited.

@“Just a litte nervous” From what I hear the students in the Engineering department keep their distance from politics and issues of that sort. (They don’t have the time.) Berkeley is still Berkeley, in that there’ll be much more of a left-wing vibe there but I know a few libertarian and conservative friends that go/went to Berkeley and they seem to have had good time overall.
