UC Berkeley 2017 Transfer Thread

Wow, did you really get that? I haven’t received anything! @hopeful_bear
Hah nice username btw! :smiley:

@hopeful_bear Did your email also include these words? “This is a second request for information because you did not respond to our first request or because we need additional
information before we can make an admission decision…” I hope they’re referring to the TAU because this was the very first email of its kind that I’ve seen. I received it late Sunday night (02/26).

Hey, guys! I have a question – will I be allowed to take a course during the summer before transfer? Will UCB allow that? I am done with all my pre-reqs already, I just wanted to take a math class I’m scared to take during the spring quarter in case I don’t do well. What do you guys propose?

@Kozmos2050 It’s usually not recommended and from what I’ve heard, UCB admissions isn’t a fan. And if you do poorly, it could unnecessarily jeopardize any potential acceptance.

@Kozmos2050

Not at CC
But you can take it at Berkeley itself during the summer session if you’re admitted.

We have received your University of California Undergraduate Application for Admission and Scholarships. Thank you for your interest in our campus.

We are in the process of reviewing your application. Before we can complete our review and reach an admission decision, we need the following information from you:

What grade did you earn in Math 227 at Mission College in Winter 2017? Please scan an unofficial copy of your transcript showing the grade.

We must receive this information by Monday, February 27, 2017, or processing of your application may be delayed or canceled.

I got that last week sent, I took this class at a different college so it was only one class listed lol. Hopefully thats sent to all Uc’s cause I got an A and it’d look nice. The reason I got it was because I didn’t pass math 125 which is needed for math 227(still got in an passed with an A). Maybe they were concerned I was lying or needed confirmation. Maybe its the deciding factor in my Aps? Who knows. Though it came from the Uc office of the president.

you are absolutely right @LandUseLaw! I spoke to my transfer counselor and they 100% just wanted to review my academic renewal from another college. Spot on.

It did not @lami96. You should definitely call Berkeley directly.

@doihaveashot2016 Yes, I did. I received it last Thursday in the late evening. Thank you I’ve never created a username before!

@shadelz I spoke to my transfer counselor (who is awesome) and he said that they ask for this extra information to be 100% accurate when calculating your GPA. This A you received in this class will be nothing but beneficial for you. I wish you the best! I also attended that college. Funny enough they asked for THAT schools transcripts from me too.

Hi! So I just placed first at a huge debate championship over the weekend. Obviously, none of the UCs know this. Should I send out an email to let them know about it? I feel like it could help my app. Thanks!!

Otherwise, I have a 3.93 overall GPA and 4.0 major GPA, my ECs include stuff like debate, I’m the exec vp at my school, the honors program, and volunteering, and a UCB admissions counselor told me she liked me personal insight questions and not to change anything about them when she read them in September. I also have a decent story. Please let me know if you think it’s worth it!

Getting anxious as the decision dates are nearing… What are my chances?

  • Got a C in my Honors English 101 class the first semester I started college (my only lower than B grade)

@Zer0xfourD I think you have an extremely likely shot to be admitted to Cal. Though your gpa is at the low end, your extra curriculars are phenomenal. If you don’t get admitted, you should definitely appeal.

@hopeful_bear Lol funny mission is so much closer but I choose valley for some stupid reason, nice place, but its sad though that I only went there in the winter for math. Do you know if thats sent to all Uc"s applied or some Uc like Irvine said “yo gimme”. If it gets factored into my GPA that boosts me up to a 3.73 which is middle of the road for a phil major. Oh well, hope for the best I guess.

@Orangered123 Well that gives me a little hope. I know the GPA’s not that impressive but I hope the ECs get the reviewer’s attention. April 28 can’t come soon enough!

@Zer0xfourD You have a JPL internship (and other remarkable activities) on your ECs/awards. Congrats on your inevitable acceptance!

@ZerOxfourD
You don’t say whether you’re CCC. If so, you should have a decent chance at one of the UC’s although it would be hard to predict which one of those to which you’ve applied. Many candidates have stronger GPA’s and have also applied to the same list of schools.
If you are transfer from non-CCC, your chances are diminished by the fact UC transfer admissions is geared nearly 90%+ to admitting CCC students.

You should check the Engineer/CS transfer statistics from the CCC you attend, if that’s the case.
Good luck.

How much exactly are your chances diminished if you’re applying from a non CCC because I’m applying from another UC. Like let’s say the average admit GPA for your major was a 3.8, what would the average admit GPA for non CCC students be?

@rootcause Thanks for the words… I know the internship is definitely a strong suit, but I’m not sure if it’s enough to cover some of my not-so-great grades :-S

@wormandcandy Thanks for the response. I am transferring out of a CCC. I’ve had friends from my college with slightly better grades but much lighter ECs get admitted to Cal for EECS last year… As much as I like to think every UC is the same for undergrad and I shouldn’t worry about which one I get into, I know that really isn’t the case when it comes to engineering.

@shadelz @hopefulbear When you got the email requesting more info was it sent from the UCB people? I received one but it seemed like it was from the UC admissions. It also stated that it was going to be made available to all of the UC schools I applied to. I received an email written more like @hopefulbear.

@enpz45 No it was from the UC office of the President (UCOP). And the reason I guess it was more like hopeful bear was because I was only asked to verify I had completed my math requirement. Which I had but it looked unbelievable because I didn’t pass the lower level the previous semester but somehow got an A in the next without the prerequisite and a higher level in the span of a few weeks? Basically Math 125 got a D in Fall 2016 which is needed as a prereq. for math 227(sad had a B but missed the final cause my car got a flat, by the time i fixed it was 20 minutes left oh well), then I crash the class make my case(cause i knew the info already from high school) got approved bypassed the requirements got an A in the Winter session. Like tbh that’d be pretty hard to believe for most Uc’s so I understand the need to check it out but hey I did it.
