Goddammit. I can’t even keep the dates right atm.
IT’LL ALL BE OVER SOOOOOOOOON
(in a good way)
(hopefully)
@FaithGraceUC Well I went on to Berkeley’s website and it says that if you got “C” or better in those courses in high school then the requirement is covered (but it seems like it is referring to the Cal freshmen only, so wanted to make sure). That’s not true that anything from high school doesn’t matter. My IGETC language requirement is being covered by my three years of Spanish in high school (without any AP scores).
Here’s the link to the webpage: http://guide.berkeley.edu/undergraduate/colleges-schools/letters-science/american-history-institutions-requirement/?PageID=ahi.html
@caliguy925 You still don’t have to send your hs transcripts to the UC. You send the hs transcript to your ccc to complete your igetc certification. The transcript that your ccc sends to the uc will have the igetc cert and waive the need for hs transcripts…unless you have ap scores as well
Yeah, as far as IGETC that’s only for Spanish. For Berkeley, it does say High School for Freshman is okay-- but as far as Transfer the wording is unclear. I didn’t realy look into this much since my major focus happens to be American History and I have plenty o’ classes on it–
But you can also fulfill the requirement at Berkeley before you graduate, so I wouldn’t worry about it until you get into the school honestly.
Edit: Oh, actually if you look at the FAQ it does say for Transfers that most completed this in High School-- so yeah you should be okay
@Orangered123 well, who knows what admissions will do but CS is a vital component these days for many disciplines. I can’t imagine they would hold it against you. It seems like ppl without CS (like me) are at the real disadvantage. Good luck!
Thank you!
Only ten days, 1 hour and 11 minutes til decisions come out. Hopefully the odds are in our favor.
@Orangered123 I don’t want to leave. Berkeley’s great; there’s no reason for me to study abroad. I want to soak in all of the time I have here.
I think law school is the most prudent option for me, but I might try to get an MA or a BPhil in Philosophy. If I find myself unwilling to do anything other than philosophy, then I suppose I’ll have to enter academia. But I find law school very appealing, and I still plan to go. I might study for both the LSAT and the GRE, apply to both law school and graduate school, and decide then. Not sure.
@caliguy925 I’m not really sure. Aren’t those general education requirements? If they are, then IGETC certification satisfies them. If they’re graduation requirements, then perhaps - I’m not really sure. I know that I have to take an American Cultures course, but other than that, there isn’t anything else outside of my major reqs that I need to complete.
@Ciceroo The transition wasn’t easy, but it was manageable. I’m doing pretty well. I have a 3.75 here currently (but that’s including one class I took at Cal before I transferred). I think I got something like a 3.66 last semester, and I’m expecting about the same (maybe better since last semester I took one non-major class, but who knows) this semester. Maybe less. I don’t see myself getting anything under a 3.5 here, since I work really, really hard in my classes. But there are some notoriously difficult classes/professors in my department.
Are you a philosophy major? Cicero’s exposition of the Stoics in his Tusculan Disputations is lovely. I really like him. I’m actually doing independent study on Seneca currently - procrastinating on a draft for my final paper, which is due tomorrow.
not to be an A-hole, but if you’re gonna pay for Grad school and don’t wanna teach than you should DEF go to Law school
@FaithGraceUC There are funded MA programs. But if I were to go to grad school for an MA, I would either get a JD or a PhD afterwards.
@goldencub I’m a History Major, but I’ve taken a plethora of philosophy classes. Currently, taking Symbolic Logic for fun and Asian philosophy. Cicero is my favorite philosopher. Currently reading his “On Government.” I too am planning on going to Law School after undergrad.
@Ciceroo Nice, well good luck!
@goldencub Thanks man. Likewise!
@zellet132 I went CalDay last year, it is for both freshman and transfers. I think it is odd because the transfer decisions won’t be coming out until next week however CalDay is geared towards new admits. It was a great experience for me nonetheless and it is very beneficial to see the campus and sit in the classrooms and interact with the students on campus.
We’ve reached 500 posts on this thread! Congratulations everyone. I think that’s some kind of milestone.
Other than that, anyone going to Cal Day this weekend?
@lexluther96 A friend of mine is friend of an admission officer at the UC and they told me that if an application is really good then they could still get rejected because they realize that other schools may admit them. They basically realize that the student won’t be coming to their school so they end up rejecting them. But this may be a different case who knows.
Yield protection? I don’t know if the UC’s practice it for transfers. If they do, it’s mainly for freshmen since those statistics matter for rankings and such.
@Orangered123 I could be wrong, but my friend told me about this in regards to transfers too. Obviously each case is different but I wouldn’t be surprised. Some CCC students build really strong applications
Has anyone applied to the CNR? And if so, did anyone receive an admissions email already? I know that the CNR often sends an email about a week prior to admissions are officially released.
@BerkeleyBound12 I also applied into CNR
