@audrey95 You’re quite on the low end for psych. You have a shot, but a lot will be riding on your essays/extracurriculars. Also depends on how many major prereqs you finished by fall. My friend last year got into Computer Science from De Anza with a 3.7 or so. He mainly attributed his acceptance despite his low gpa to finishing all major prereqs by fall. Berkeley seems to like that a lot. I’m hoping they de anyways. ¯_(ツ)_/ ¯
@stressedmeg I also applied into CNR. Conservation and Resource Studies
Anyone trying to pursue their Legal Studies major here ?
.
@stressedmeg I applied for Microbial Bio! Is Cal your first choice?
@Orangered123 Thanks for your information!
@Orangered123 I’ll be there in the afternoon for the transfer student panel! I really wish Cal had a transfer day, really big bummer.
Please let us know how it was! It would be AMAZING if someone could film it.
@doihaveashot2016 That’s not a bad idea. I’ll try to film it and any other significant events that might be of interest to fellow with my phone and upload it later this weekend.
I might have some time free inbetween. Are there any events listed on here: http://calday.berkeley.edu/events.php?calday_category=&calday_time=&calday-text-search=&view=nandp
That people might be interested in? I plan to go to the Mathematics major one, transfer student panel, study abroad panel, meet the director of undergrad admissions, and a couple other ones.
If I have time I’ll drop by the ones people are interested and film/note down interesting points. LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS that you would like answered by the undergraduate admissions director and/or transfer student panel or something else. I’ll try to ask as many as I can.
For those of you going, could you please recap what you learn here? I’d greatly appreciate it. I really wanted to go but couldn’t get out of an 8-hour shift
@BerkeleyBound12 yes definitely! Is it yours as well?
@Orangered123 You’re trying to switch to CS upon transferring to Berkeley? Although I might stay an additional year, I am trying to do the same, even possibly double majoring. That is if I am able to do well on the first three CS61 courses.
@Orangred123 If circumstances are right for you to ask, I would like to hear what they have to say about:
I mistakenly didn’t fill out the engineering update form when I turned in my college fall and winter term grades. Both forms were due on the same date (end of January) and I thought they were the same. Does that mean my application won’t be evaluated by the engineering admissions staff?
Is study abroad to Tokyo possible for EECS students? (that is, electrical engineering computer science students). Is credit given for CS courses taken abroad? Are there any CS internships in Japan?
Thanks a lot for attending this event and giving us a review of what you learn. I’m an 8 hour drive or I’d go.
So nerve wrecking
I’ve already been admitted to UCI, UCD, AND UCSD but UCLA and Cal are my top choices so this upcoming week is going to be the death of me!
@icuzns I’m not. I wrote about CS in my essays since I applied as CS to some other schools but if I get into Cal I’ll almost for sure simply sticking to majoring in Cognitive Science and minoring in Computer Science. I like programming, but I’m not amazing at it and I don’t like it enough to make a major out of it. I was really worried since because I wrote about CS in my essays alongside Cognitive Science that Cal would not accept me. Spoke with a counselor today, seems like I’m clear. SO DAMN RELIEVED. Though still really, really anxious over admissions.
I’ll be sure to update you folks on Cal day and what I heard in a bit. Just got back and relaxing right now. SO MUCH HW to do. Going to be busy all of tomorrow.
Hey everyone! I was at Cal Day and went to the transfer student panel so let me know if you have any questions
I’m aware that I didn’t fill out the “Awards” in my application even though I had 6 quarters in Dean’s list (because I didn’t know that in Dean’s list is counted as awards). Will the admission know that without being told? I feel frustrated right now
@mangobby Hi! What were some of the most important and insightful things you learned from the transfer student panel, some of which might be largely unknown to the College Confidential community?
@plsacceptmeUCs There’s an entire transfer student center that seems really supportive. Helpful staff for advising, counseling support, etc. I definitely want to get involved if I attend since it seems like such a great community! Also, one girl talked about how the workload increased a LOT from cc to Berkeley, which is to be expected, but she was able to reach out and get the support she needed. I think the main takeaway was getting involved on campus and the importance of collaboration (many people can do fine on their own at a cc, but they made it seem like a necessity at Berkeley to succeed).
Let me know if you have any specific questions though, the presentation was rather broad.
