UC Berkeley Appeal (2015)

well, at this point, I really want to know how careful they put on the review. I must dig into the bottom of it although I did not care any more. I am doing this for future generation for in state, out state and interational who wish to step in America soul!!!

No, I didn’t say there was “no way to be accepted” by another campus, just that I know what the Comprehensive Review process entails, and how U.C. has a mission, system-wide, to place students where they will thrive, and to apportion offer letters. In the last few years, a minority of students have been accepted to all UC campuses. More often, the pattern is a couple of campuses; this year it has been common to be accepted to – or get off the waitlist or appeal list – of just one campus. That’s the reality of competition and supply of UC seats in the year 2015. Get used to it. You will still find some students who got into several UC campuses, but that trend has been diminishing over the last 5 years.

More people applying every year + government taking away funds for UC = we lose

Post 182: agreed. And there are probably just as many adults upset about this as students.

Thank you very much to share your thought. I accepted by one out of 4 UC campuses and straight rejected by Berkeley with ACT 35 and AP courses with all 5 & 4 . I fully agreed it has a huge funding problems on UC all the years. However, it really did not make sense with a quite looking good scores on Sats even unable made it to waitlist. In fact, I have heard students around me with much lower GPA or Sats scores were continuing offered off waitlist (of course, they made it to waitlist) in these two days. It was a huge exhausted and frustrated through out the year. Therefore, I must get down to the bottom of it and be able to move on.

@kitty1 Sorry to break it to you, but admissions have definitely gotten tougher over the years. Stellar grades and test scores alone just don’t cut it anymore. That’s the whole point of holistic admissions: they consider many factors besides the raw numbers. But I truly believe that the college we each attend is the best one for us, though we may not realize it now. I think in 5 years you will look back and be really glad that you went to the college you did. (:

Plus, no one is “going to get to the bottom of this,” because the reasons for rejections are not published in the student’s file, and any other records would be the confidential property of the University of California administrators. Students and families have no right to that information, just as when you and hundreds of other candidates apply for a job and get turned down, the employer is not legally required to share private discussions he has had with others about your suitability for the job.

If you were accepted by one campus it IS time to move on. Do it already. You’re not some special, privileged case. Thousands of applicants have been rejected from UC Berkeley this year, and every year. Time to get a grip.

Accepted off appeal!!!
Transfer to L&S.

@jazhuk Congrats!!! Btw, what was your major, and did you receive an email saying you’re accepted?

@Dhruv97 Thank you! Computer Science and no email, I had to check the application website every day:)

I had the following questions about appealing my decision:

  1. Do we have to do everything online via MAP@Berkeley?
  2. I read that people sent LoRs and other supplement information as well. However, when I opened the appeal form it directed me to a page where I can write a 500 word write-up and then it asks me to submit it. How do I send LoRs and other supplement information?

Thanks!

bolt1234 My understanding is that it is just that 500 word write up and nothing else is considered. Everything is online.

Omg Can I ask how did you make it?

My s did not make it. I believe someone higher up did. But that is all your appeal can be.

@novahritan Do you know what was in her/his appeal? Is it really necessary that when you apply, your gpa should be high? And did you get in?

@berkeleycallsme did you get accepted? I’m losing hope to the appeal decision. My stats aren’t that good so I don’t know.
