Deadline to pay Fall Semester Balance?

august 15 is the deadline.

What are we supposed to pay by the 15th? What is supposed to be in this Fall semester's balance? I checked my BearFacts and my CARS about $8000 in it from scholarship stuff, while by registration fees are about $4200. However, I don't see where I would have to pay for this stuff. This is what my quick statement says:

Minimum Amount Due Now: $0.00
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee: $0.00
Account Balance: $8,064.25

?

Balance is due in full (or the first payment is due, if you do the DPP) on August 15th. However, there is a 30-day grace period before they charge you the $50 late fee, so you really have until September 15th. EXCEPTION: Make sure you have paid enough to cover the "registration" portion of the fees. Without that, you won't be considered a registered student, which will cause problems with classes.

Azure326: Well, it looks like you owe nothing now. The fee payment is supposed to be the total of what you owe for the entire Fall semester. If your account balance is $8,064.25 and not -$8,064.25, you owe them that at some point but not right now -- try calling the bursar.

There's no "-" anywhere. Why do I specifically owe them my entire balance if there is no "-"? My understanding is that is how much cash I have in my CARS account, not how much I owe (obviously it'll all eventually go away to pay for housing & registration, but I was just wondering how that number itself is indicative of how much I owe).

Does everybody else have $0.00 for their Minimum Amount Due? This is getting me nervous as I hope I'm still registered for classes and everything.

Once it says something for the minimum amount due, and I want to pay my amount due with my CARS balance, the only way I can do it is by doing an E-Bill, right?

Because the "-" is a negative sign meaning that your grants, loans and other awards have covered your registration and gone over by the amount following it. If it's not there, it means it's a positive balance you owe.

Does your E-Bill say you owe money?

This is what my E-Bill says:
Most Recent Statement
Statement Name Statement Date Statement Amount Statement Due Date
Cars Bill 07/25/2007 $0.00 08/15/07

Statement History
Statement Name Statement Date Bill Amount
Cars Bill 05/25/2007 $0.00
If I click on "Cars Bill" it says that my balance is 11,011.75, but MINIMUM PAYMENT DUE is still ".00." And for my "credits," it has only added my Cal Grant, Pell Grant, and outside scholarship (my Berkeley UG scholarship isn't there, along with some other grant). My BearFacts, under Award Summary, says that 8,303.00 has been sent to my CARS, but when I click on Cars Bill through E-Bill my "credits" are only 5,655.50.

Isn't your balance for your E-Bill how much you OWE, and your balance for your CARS how much you HAVE (So if you have a positive balance in your bank account, it means you HAVE money)?

(The difference in the amounts is immaterial; eBill is slower to reflect changes)

CARS is still billing. Have you compared how much your loans and grants cover versus how much registration is? If the amount there is that much bigger...

According to the Registration Fee Summary page, I owe $4,192.25. My E-Bill "credits" are more than that ($5,655.50).

So, as of now, I owe $8,064.25, which is my CARS balance? My BearFacts Award Summary indicates that $8,303.00 has been sent to my CARS account. Does this mean that my credits will eventually (after getting updated) go to $8,303.00 from $5,655.50, or does it mean that my CARS balance was originally $16,367.25 (and when the $8,303.00 was "sent to my CARS account," it subtracted from my balance to get me $8,064.25)?

CARS Quick Statement

Minimum Amount Due Now: $348.75
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee: $348.75
Account Balance: $9,785.25

==========================
mine looks like this. what is "account balance" supposed to mean?

and I got about 4000 financial aid from UCB this semester. do i have to do something? or they will charge me automatically?

Student CARS Awards Summary

Fall 2007

Select A Term: Spring 2007Summer 2007Fall 2007Spring 2008

As of: August 09, 2007

Award Description Date Award Amount

BERKELEY SCHOLARSHIP 07/30/2007 $3,584.00
UNIVERSITY FEE GRT1 FL 07/23/2007 $218.00

Another question... I'm doing the DPP, but that's just for fees... Where/when can I pay for housing?! Gah, Cars is messed up.

Account balance is how much you owe them. If it is negative then that is how much you will be refunded.

ok, question

my reg fees are basically almost taken care of by grants except for 98$ which is the balance under reg fee summary on bearfacts

however, i also got an e-bill due for august for about 1100$ so im not sure which bill they want me to pay first? i have no idea where the 1100$ came from ... and it's too little to be the first installment for room and board... =(

surf -- is your room/board $11,000? B/c they break it down into 10 mo., which is $1,100/mo.

On another note, one part of my bill shows I still owe for CARS for August 15th, but another one on payments shows I paid it!!! So it should show a balance of 0. What gives?

no its 12000 something, they raised the price
and ive checked under details, the first installment ~1250$

The balance is confusing but I would just ignore it.

A lot of people are getting $0.00. This is because they issued a registration fee of about $3,500 for fall, but your financial aid covered for all of it. So, you can just ignore all payments that are $0.00. After you accept your financial aid, they will process it and then send it to CARS, and you can think of that money as floating in limbo (might be related to the balance, but like I said don't bother trying to figure that out). So how e-billing works is, first they issue a statement, then apply whatever financial aid you have to pay for it. Once your financial aid runs out, you'll have to start paying them. You'll need to register a checking/savings account with the e-billing system and whenever it asks for a payment, you can just pay on the website and it'll automatically draw that much money from your account. The only thing you really need to pay attention to are the e-bills. If they're $0.00 then you're fine, otherwise pay from your account. It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

Go to Bearfacts, log in, go to E-billing, and see if you need to make a payment. What might have happened is, you paid for the bill but they haven't processed it yet. Berkeley's pretty slow about these things. Wait a week and see what happens.

My e-bill says this:
Statement Name Statement Date Statement Amount Statement Due Date
Cars Bill 07/25/2007 $1,932.75 08/15/07

But my bearfacts CARS quick statement says this:
Minimum Amount Due Now: $0.00
Minimum Due + Full Reg Fee: $0.00
Account Balance: $6,360.25

So, I'm confused, Do I have to pay the 1,932? Or is it that the e-bill has not yet been updated? Because my CARS show that my scholarship has been paid out, but the e-bill hasn't.

Your eBill is what you have to pay. It is a little slower to update than your CARS statement, so if you're ever in doubt, just call the office. They're more than happy to tell you and to explain things.

except they can get pretty uptight if you keep on bothering them with questions... ha ha...
