UC Berkeley - Class of 2020 Waitlist

So, was there anyone who got into EECS from the waitlist? It appears the EECS was maybe oversubscribed this year?!..

I think it meant 80% of offers have gone out. Not 80% were accepted. But that’s my guess.

@yoyohi It is very possible they called 80% from the waitlist – this does not mean everyone would accept.

This is my math:
Berkeley’s typical yield is about 37%. If 50% of 7000 waitlisted students accepted to be in the list, then we would have a pool of 3500. At 37% yield, this would mean they could fill up to approx. 1300 places. Since people said about 900-something places needed to be filled… This appears to mean that a large share of the people in the list would need to be called…

@KloudKoder while I get your logic, I think it might be wrong to use the 37% yield rate in the waitlist group. Students accepting to be on the waitlist more often than not will commit to that college if accepted. Therefore, what I’m saying is that there would naturally be a much larger yield from the waitlist group.

Any engineers hear back yet?

Someone call. lol (@work )

Should I take a gap year and reapply next year? I got into UWash under Pre-Science Major which means I got to apply and compete with others to declare CS as my major. Plus, CS is one of UWash most competitive major. What should I doo?? If I don’t get Berkeley or any other institution that I was waitlisted I’m screwed.

@Thesolu Are you waitlisted for EECS? If it is Arts and Science it is pretty much as bad as UW…

I also got in UW as pre-engineering and I feel your pain. I would not take a gap year just for this purpose (I don’t think this would increase your chances). If I were you I would take my chances in UW, then if I could not get into CS I would try to transfer to some more transfer-friendly institution like Georgia Tech – and even try EECS again as a transfer – but it seems very hopeless

Safe to assume that it is only going to be rejections from now on?

@KloudKoder I’m waitlisted at L&S. If I get off the waitlist, I can, at least, still do CS under school of L&S in Berkeley as long as I get the minimum GPA unlike UWash where I need to reapply and go through an admission process again.

@Thesolu That’s a good point. At least you would be able to control your own GPA. UW’s admission process feels more random. I think you may have better chance for L&S than I for EECS… Good luck!

Last year berkeley postponed the deadline to june 15th. You think its possible to do this year as well?

Decisions were delayed last year - until the state budet was finalized in June
http://www.dailycal.org/2015/06/16/lawmakers-brown-reach-agreement-on-proposed-115-4-billion-state-budget/

@1Katniss Do you mind calling the admissions office today, and ask them if any seats opened up? Or when will the final decisions be released?

Talked with the office this morning. They said that all final decisions will be posted later today but did not give any light as to whether any of these decisions would be acceptances.

They are probably all rejections.

Wasnt the deadline to accept offers on 31st for the last batch? Hmm…

@Rohitmohit - I called. Answers depend on which person answers the phone, as we know. The person I spoke with would only say that “the deadline is tomorrow” and that notifications will be sent out by then and to look for the email that an update has been posted to your portal today or tomorrow. She said they aren’t given the information about whether or not wait list offers are being made, until just before they are released by admissions.

@Rohitmohit - One person here said his SIR date was 5/30. Transfer SIR date is tomorrow. There were fall and spring admits. Room on campus would depend on transfer yield as well. There is a transfer wait list, but I heard it’s very small.

expecting the results tomorrow then? @1Katniss
