I’m not 100% sure, but I’m assuming they’re done sending at LOR requests considering they’d be due January 15th. But still possible.
@quinnbossel I don’t think any came after the first week of december
Any indian student received LOR? Checking for my D
1460 SAT
33 ACT (34SS)
AP: Hum Geo, World His, Euro His, US His, Chem, Lang, Lit, CS, Stats, BC Calc, both Physics C
Lots of Ec’s including pres of chem club, work with mayor to promote diversity, and student advisor to congressman.
Several awards in science realm and lots of research.
I have not received a LOR request or an EC verification. Should I be concerned?
@confused6789 Uncapped weighted UC GPA?
@ShieldOfGod I am very much interested in seeing where you got the information on post 161 from. How come CC doesn’t let you post the link? Perhaps you may PM it to me? As an applicant to Berkeley CoE, should I be relieved that I have not received LOR request? I have also applied to MET, but have not received an interview request. Should I email Berkeley asking if they are interested in receiving my LORs and also say that I would like to interview with them? Would this demonstrate my persistence and interest in the school or would that just be annoying?
Considering that the percentage of applicants Cal is able to request a LOR was decreased from 30% to 15%, I think it’s safer to say they mostly request ‘maybe’ applicants…? There is a video on a study about the LORs on youtube that was presented to the admissions team. I think they do say that it is mostly ‘maybe’ applicants that they requested last year.
I turned my application in on 11/29 and received a request 12/8. My UC gpa was 4.24 which is high for my small school, and my highest SAT (before I took the December SAT) they received was 1330. I also mistakenly sent a 26 ACT score (yikes). The 1330 is right at their in-state average, but if they did look at my contrasting ACT score, I can completely understand why they would be more on-the-fence about me.
More details:
-male
-asian
-first generation
-declared biology in L&S
-in state
-small school in big city
-sent a 1410 SAT score after getting a request (I checked the “waiting on scores” box for the Dec SAT)
-top 10%
-good but not amazing ECs (I have roles in multiple clubs including president)
My friend who has a SAT score in the 1200s and a UC gpa in the 4.1s also received a request. I don’t think anyone else at my school was requested a letter.
@ironweasal UC GPA: 4.0 (think) I am not 100% sure Berkeley GPA
So are high test scores and no LOR request, good?
@confused6789 kind of. I think I see what’s going on with LORs this year. This year, the number of LORs is limited to 15%, not 30% like last year, so those that received a request in early december/just after submitting application are the only ones that are ever going to get the request. The system of a human reading your application and then requesting a recommendation just isn’t happening this year. The only way you will be getting a request is if a computer thinks your stats (gpa + test scores) are borderline. All the requests have already gone out a long time ago and were requested by a computer. Does anyone have any contradictory evidence, such as a request coming after December 5th or so?
@coolguy985 you would have been notified via email correct?
@confused6789 I think so, but I’m not sure. To be safe, check this link: https://apply.berkeley.edu/apply/ref
@confused6789 Yeah, admissions@berkeley.edu would have emailed you in early December/late November—I doubt they’d request later than early December, but it’s possible
Don’t worry about not receiving LOR requests if you already have high stats- it’s usually only requested for borderline applicants. I was never asked for one and was accepted OOS last year.
@Studious99 Thank you. I was really worried.
Does everyone get their decisions on the same date and time, or do some people get to know a bit earlier? ( I have heard about decisions in Feb.)
In the past, some decisions came out in February. The majority came at the end of March.
Q: Is it possible for freshman applicants to be admitted earlier than the March decision date?
A: Yes, a small number of students will receive notification of their decision in February. Most of these students will be nominees for Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarships, a process that has traditionally been initiated during this time of year; the difference is that those students and some others are receiving admission offers at the same time. Early admission notification is not Early Action or Early Decision. Students cannot apply to be admitted early. The majority of freshman applicants still will receive their decisions at the end of March, via the MAP@Berkeley portal.
@Gumbymom thanks…
I know Berkeley offers some students admission contingent upon acceptance of alternate (not traditional) First Year Pathways, such as spring admit , Global Edge, FPF, etc.
Are these alternate pathways reserved for students who are eventually admitted off the waitlist? In other words, will all students admitted in Feb/March be offered a traditional path? Or is it possible to receive an alternate pathway-contingent admission in Feb/March?
