UC Berkeley - Class of 2022 Waitlisted Applicants Thread

@bonusoceans I have 2 friends that got accepted and only one committed. People in my school tend to choose UCLA over Berkeley, so a lot of my intelligent friends didn’t even applied to Berkeley.

@knowledgeispower18 I applied to Natural Resources and got the email. And no, it isn’t personalized to my major. Try checking your junk mail.

Just got a new UC Berkeley email today. Should have been sent to all waitlist applicants. Basically, stated that emails may be coming soon and to be prepared to commit in 7 days and to review the FPF and Global program.

Good luck all!

eecs got email not personalized

Most of the people from my school (OOS) who got into both UCLA and Berk, almost always chose UCLA

So everyone’s email mentions college of letters and sciences ?

Mine doesn’t mention L&S. Eng btw

@SomeKid123 hmmmm L&S one talks about possibly only given one enrollment pathway if admitted so to be prepared…

"As an applicant to the College of Letters and Science, it is possible that you may be offered only one enrollment pathway if you are selected for admission. Since you will have to make a quick decision, we encourage you to check out the websites of the Fall Program for Freshmen and Global Edge London programs early. It is important that you fully understand what the programs entail, in order to make a fully informed decision. "

^Ugh do you think this means no fall admit? Is there anyone who applied to L&S who didn’t get this email

At my school in SoCal, 2/7 kids who were accepted to Cal actually enrolled (the ones who denied offers of admission ended up at Michigan, USC, JHU, Rice, and WashU). Looking pretty good for waitlists

if you’re admitted for spring semester, can you defer a semester and just start fall 2019?

Glad to see other people obsessing like me. My son is totally relaxed. Waitlisted, SIRing to UCSD and comfortable just waiting to see what happens.

1540 SAT
4.6 UC gpa
Poli sci major

@collegesavant1 let’s optimisticly hope! @audblock good question lol! best of luck to you all!!!

FYI:
“The UC Regents delayed a vote on tuition increase to negotiate for more state funding according to an April 26, 2018 LA Times article. This could be bad news for waitlisted students because the exact same thing happened in May 2015 and the UC system held the waitlisted students hostage during the budget negotiation (this was confirmed during the counselor conference later that year); students were left in limbo until late into the summer (August in some cases).”

Students who are waitlisted or appealing should expect longer wait than usual (some UCs already said they may not notify waitlisted students until July). I recommend moving forward full speed with your alternate plan; no one wins when the UCs use students as cannon fodder in a budget war.

I checked the UCB Class of 2019 Waitlisted Applicants CC thread, and people got in during the first week of May. The only delay I read about was due to technical difficulties. Not sure if the delayed vote on tuition affected a ton of kids or only a few in 2015, so I don’t know if it’ll affect a lot of us this year. I could be wrong, but skimming that thread gave me some peace of mind.

@lilmisschattrbox Thanks so much for checking and sharing. Still think Cal will want to fill their 2022 class with top students so they may still notify waitlisted applicants asap.

Does doing fpf interfere with majoring in CS at all? I’ve seen mixed info on this

@audblock Being accepted fpf can set you back compare to regular admit. fpf only has limited classes Some course sequences for popular majors may only be offered starting fall semester, so you may have to wait until the following fall to start those sequences. You may want to check whether that is the case for any courses needed for any major that you are considering.

@WaitingforGodot4 how would I find out if the classes I need are offered in the spring or not?
