Did anyone see that WSJ article about waitlists? It said Berkeley’s was 27%, and some people are saying it’s 50. Which is it?
I’m unable to read the full article. Can you post it here? AND BTW it’s 54%
I think it depends on what stat you look at. Some people calculate the percentage as - # of WL spots offered / # Admitted. The second way to do it is - # Opt ins / # Admitted. The former is, in my opinion, and I feel objectively as well, a useless stat and is misleading, whereas the latter calculation is more reliable and actually makes sense. Why calculate waitlist acc rate based off of spots offered rather than # of opt ins.
LOL good point
can someone post that article?
Yeah the way they calculated the rate definitely isn’t right, technically there weren’t even 7000 people on the waitlist because online ~3500 opted in
Wait-- only 3500 people opted in this year?
@dreambig18 no that was last year
Anybody seen this :
Waitlisted Students May Wait Longer as UCs Negotiate for More State Funding
by Ms. Sun
The UC Regents delayed a vote on tuition increase to negotiate for more state funding according to an April 26, 2018 LA Times article. This could be bad news for waitlisted students because the exact same thing happened in May 2015 and the UC system held the waitlisted students hostage during the budget negotiation (this was confirmed during the counselor conference later that year); students were left in limbo until late into the summer (August in some cases).
Students who are waitlisted or appealing should expect longer wait than usual (some UCs already said they may not notify waitlisted students until July). I recommend moving forward full speed with your alternate plan; no one wins when the UCs use students as cannon fodder in a budget war.
omg that email actually scared me to death.
Where did you find this information/article? Can’t seem to find anything related to that.
Also, the e-mail mentioned since I’m L&S I’ll only have one pathway. But I accidentally picked GEL instead of FPF on my opt-in form. When I called they said it was non-binding, but I’m still afraid…
@JimmyJoBob where did you see that?? Does that mean that Berkeley may not start notifying next week?
Anybody got an email from Berkeley regarding the waitlist process??
Considering that email was sent out, looks like that article about waitlists coming out late will probably not apply to Berkeley
Anyone with friends accepted know if they’ve committed or not? 4/5 people I know who got accepted committed, not looking so hot for us WL friends.
Here is the link to the website. Ms. Sun is a coll
sorry here it is - https://■■■■■■■■■■■■/blog/
Got the email too, think its sent to everyone that opted in.
Did the email only go out to Letters and Science applicants? Or was everyone’s personalized with their major?
@knowledgeispower18 Applied to engineering, got the email, wasn’t personalized to my major.
