How are they? are you garuenteed dorming for 4 years?

Housing is guaranteed for 2 years (for freshmen) and 1 year (for transfer). They are ok … not as good as UCLA’s dorms. They definitely aren’t that nice and are obviously not Berkeley’s best.

so if they are not that nice, why are they 14K per year?

it includes the food plan - also nothing to write home about

Ugh. Both my sisters went to UCB. Dorms were pretty awful. They lived in Co-ops for a year and then one moved into an apartment and one lived in a house…kind of a boarding house, with individual rooms and kitchen priviledges…she LOVED that arrangement. Dorms were crowded.

at other UCs room w/ food is 10k, though, i don’t understand why they are charging so much more than other schools. do they give you any other privileges?

world class education?

But at LA, all the dorms are triples. At Berkeley, you have a good chance of getting a double. Personally, I would rather live in a double instead of a triple that looks a little bit nicer. The dorms at Berkeley really aren’t that bad. Where are all these spoiled kids coming from? Jk.

can you live in the dorms during breaks? thanksgiving, winter, spring?

Dorms are not that great. If you are going to live in the dorms, I’ll recommend deciding what you want out of the dorm: proximity, good food, quality, price, etc. Then choose the dorm that would satisfy you.

And the dorms kick you out during winter break only.

the best part of dorms is the proximity it’s worth the 14k :0

Dorms in general are nothing to brag about. -.-;;;

^pos, what do you mean I can choose the dorm?

As in the dorm housing, or the room in a house the administration selects for you?

Can you please specify, and if you do, have some website that gives advice on the dorms at Cal?

Thanks!

Definitely want to have choice in dorms. If I’m correct, Freshmen have 6 (and the FH suites) options to choose from?

http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/fallfreshmen.html

[Living at Cal](http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/index.html)

You have to rank your preference for residential complex (unit 1, 2, 3; stern; bowles; clark kerr). They will try to give you your first choice.

If you want to live in the dorms again for your second year, you have first choice where you want and you can choose what floor and room.

If you want a giant and nice dorm then pick Clark Kerr. If you are cheap then pick the Units which are kind of not so pretty, but its not really death.

is there a website that’s just about the dorms at Cal?

like ratings, reviews, etc?

oh, and Clark Kerr is going through renovations for the 09-10 year, so will it be closed to applications there or will it just be noisy?

Hahaha I remember how they were doing renovations on Unit 3 when the school year started. Haha those jack hammers always woke me up early!!!

^
weren’t they only renovations for cafe 3? lol
I remember. but i had 8am classes…so i guess they helped wake me up for my classes.
