UC Berkeley Financial Aid Problem

Hello guys. First of all, congratulations on your acceptance(s) to university(s).

I too was ecstatic when I found out that I was accepted to UC Berkeley last Friday. After checking on my acceptance, I immediately created my calnet ID to view my Financial Aid offer. However, when I logged on to myfinaid site there was nothing. The page was completely blank.

I called Berkeley first thing on Monday and asked why it was so. They said they will check on it and get back to me within 3 to 4 days.

Come Thursday, they didn’t still give call so I called them back saying I haven’t received any further notices from Berkeley and that it would be nice to know the Financial Aid offerings so I can make my decisions quick. They said they will reply via email within 24 hours. Later on Thursday, I got an email from Berkeley saying:

Our system indicates that you have not yet started the SLR submission process. Please go to the Online SLR Form. Until this process is complete, we cannot confirm what financial aid awards you are eligible for.
Again, thank you for contacting us. Have a great day.

Is this really true? Do they expect me (or others in similar situation) to SLR to UCB without knowing how much I would be aided financially? I am contemplating in between LA and Berkeley and I don’t want to choose one university over another without knowing the financial details.

This must be a mistake right? should I call them back? Is anyone having any similar problem as me? Did everyone receive their Financial Aid estimate?

P.S. I have received my Financial Aid estimates from other UCs I’ve applied to.

Thank you,

Btw SIR is a requirement for SLR so I would have to SIR first to complete my SLR

SLR= Statement of Legal Residence; not
SIR= Statement of Intent to Register

@2016Candles Thank you for replying. Yes I am aware of the fact that SLR and SIR are completely two different things. However, when I log in to complete my SLR it says: You are not eligible to fill out an SLR at this time. A positive SIR is a prerequisite to the SLR.

So I would have to SIR first to find out my Financial aid package

Oops. When I said “Is this really true? Do they expect me (or others in similar situation) to SLR to UCB without knowing how much I would be aided financially?” I meant SIR not SLR. I guess they do get confusing so early in the morning

I didn’t see your 2nd post about SIR being a requirment for SLR.

I don’t know how that works. Sorry

“Come Thursday, they didn’t still give call” should be corrected to “Come Thursday, they still haven’t given me a call”

“I am contemplating in between LA and Berkeley” should be “I am contemplating between LA and Berkeley”

so many mistakes. I should be sleeping

So many people have been dealing with financial aid problems! I hope this doesn’t happen to me next year when I apply to transfer! Hope you find a solution ASAP! Good luck! (:

Something similar happened to me but it was because I did not put the school code in the fafsa application. Once I did that, the estimates showed in about a week.

for future reference the problem got fixed after I gave them another call
