Hey all, just wanted some insight on the verification process. Berkeley gave me a decent FAFSA package but its conditional. They’ve chosen me to go through their verification process. HAs anyone had experiences with this? what exactly do I need to do? Is it a deal-breaker? I don’t want to stress over it, Davis gave me a full ride without verification, waiting for UCLA as well. I want to go to Berkeley but don’t want to be stressed over not getting the financial aid I need.
Hey, all my gift aid is “conditional” but as for the verification process, I was not selected. So, I am not sure what is the next step because there is no provided information on my cal central. Maybe we will be notified of further steps in a few weeks but in the meantime, you can contact the financial aid office or undergrad admissions. Hopefully, they will have a better answer (than me lol).
Same boat… Offered me a full ride but everything says conditional. Is it bs or just semantics… Insight appreciated!
It’s conditional based off a lot of factors, like passing the classes we are currently taking, sending in our transcripts, sending IGETC verification. In my case, they put fafsa verification on my package award and I need to send in certain paperwork to show that I was currently awarded that fafsa amount. It’s dumb because the fafsa amount is subject to change based on whatever they information they get from the paperwork (tax return 1040 2018)
@cali2good I also was selected for FASFA verification for my Berkeley financial aid. I am not sure why we were chosen. It might just be random, but I did have a big change in finances/income recently so maybe they want to make sure it’s true.
it’s kind of stressful tbh, I want to go to UC Berkeley, but if UCLA accepts me and doesn’t require FAFSA verification, then I’m choosing UCLA.
@cali2good If you really want to go to Berkeley then what’s the problem with going through the FAFSA verification? If you didn’t lie about anything on your FAFSA then you should be fine.
i just feel like its unnecessary, its a burden, i used the IRS Link tool in the fafsa website to transfer all the info onto my fafsa. So there’s no way i’d be lying to them about it. and it says on my fafsa report that i did that. Its a hassle.
@cali2good It seems like it truly is random. It may be somewhat of a hassle but maybe not as much as you may think. I wouldn’t let it affect whether you want to go to Berkeley or not though
