If I've been selected for financial aid verification, is it mandatory that I do it? Or, can I simply ignore it and either choose another UC or forfeit my financial aid?

So far, I've been pretty much stuck between choosing UCLA and UC Berkeley, but considering that I've been chosen for verification for UCLA, as well as some other small things, I'm really thinking about slashing UCLA off my list.

Can I simply ignore it and submit my SIR to another college?

If your FAFSA has been flagged for verifcation you will probably be verified at **every **school you submit FAFSA to. @30% of FAFSAs are selected for verification - by FAFSA - not by your school. Most are randomly selected - some are selected because numbers don't tie in - such as having $10,000 in interest income but no assets.

I haven't submitted my SIR yet. I was informed that I needed verification thru email, and I've checked with the financial aid office to make sure that email was real. It's clearly stated that it's UCLA who wants it verified.

Meanwhile, I already have a financial aid offer at another school. Should I still submit verification anyways, or should I just ignore it?

The documentation really is a hassle, especially when there's a possibility that I might not even attend.
