UC Berkeley Greek life

Whats the greek scene like? Is it extremely present on campus? What are the different sororities/what are they looking for

something about your username tells me you’re not the type for a sorority

^^ Ignore them.

It’s a significant, but not overwhelming presence. Check it out, make your decision. It’s certainly fun but not essential to have a good time at Cal. It’s just another way to meet people.

maybe just one of the words

Sororities have a standard rush process where you visit all of the houses. Then over time, through a mutual matching process, you winnow down your choices until you find the house that you like (or decide not to join one at all). You should be able to figure out the character of all of the sorority houses.

Greek life is not particularly prevalent if you are not looking for it. But if you get involved, there are a tremendous number of events going on.

is it okay to rush with a friend or would they prefer you to go alone? It seems kind of scary to go alone if everyone’s evaluating you lol

Think from their perspective: They are looking for extra members! I’m in a fraternity, not a sorority, but I know that we are thrilled when people bring their friends. It means more potential recruits for us. I’m sure it’s similar with sororities.
