Hey guys,
I'm a prospective Integrative Biology Major, in UCB Tap, and have completed most of my prerequisites for the major & IGETC besides the Organic Chemistry series, second semester Calculus, and the Physics series which I will be taking this fall/spring 2015 semester. I will be applying this fall and was wondering if I could postpone taking Physics till if I was admitted since I wanted to take OChem on its own and not risk the chance of lowering my GPA balancing both these rigorous science courses. I know it is highly recommended to finish physics prior to transferring since it will be difficult to enroll in the classes at UCB, but I wanted to know anyone's experience or input on this since it isn't required for admission or declaring. Once you declare IB, are you practically in the major or will you need to be enrolled in Physics first? Thanks in advance!

However, it would be better to complete physics at CC so that you won’t have to use up schedule space after transfer to take it.

to be quite honest I would try to take both at the CC level because physics and organic chemistry are both extremely difficult. I just got into both UCB and UCLA as an MCB and Neuroscience major respectively, and I’m currently taking the last semester of physics based calculus… Even though I’m taking physics at a CC it is still extremely difficult, our professor also works at UCB so as you can imagine physics is extremely difficult. I can’t imagine taking that class at a place like UCB. Organic chemistry is tough but not as hard as physics based calc, I actually had fun in that class! I’m sure you can handle taking both at your CC. Trust me you’re going to have a higher chance of getting in having completed both requirements and that way you can also just worry about upper division courses which should be fun (since they are all related to your major) :). Best of luck!

Thanks for the responses and congrats to you @ucastell! That is a great achievement and you’re almost done! Yeah, I’m quite worried about calculus based physics as well. If you don’t mind me asking, what GPA do you think would be considered competitive for getting into Integrative Bio or MCB and do you have any tips? I found your post tremendously helpful and I will most definitely try to finish the sequences off before transferring!
