I am dying to transfer for UC Berkeley mainly for the city and the school itself. I have an average application but am worried I won’t be able to get in. Is it a horrible idea to apply to an easy major and try to switch out down the road?
https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major can give you an idea of how difficult admissions is.
For some majors (e.g. those in the College of Engineering or the business major), admission is by major, and changing into such a major is difficult or impossible afterward, due to each major being completely filled to capacity. For the College of Letters and Science, most majors are not difficult to declare or change into if you have the prerequisites, but some require high GPAs to declare. Check the department of your major for any requirements to declare the major after admission as a transfer student.
Yes. You probably won’t be able to make that switch.
