I applied to UCB as a CS major and I’m currently setting up my Spring schedule and I was wondering if it would look good to take Discrete Structures at my school. It’s not required by them but they do require a class called “Discrete Mathematic and Probability Theory” that my CCC does not offer. So do you guys think it would look good to take Discrete Structures although it’s not directly comparable to the COMSCI 70 class?
I advise graduating HS seniors not to sign up for anything their first semester that they haven’t had before. The college game is played differently and it takes time to adjust. Keep your variables as low as possible. Courses like English, US History, and Economics should all be familiar to you already. These classes make excellent first semester choices.
@STEMteacher I’m not a HS Senior. I’m a California Community College student that applied for transfer. I was wondering if it would look good to take Discrete structures even though it doesn’t directly translate to there Discrete math class or would it just be a waste
Are you talking about your spring schedule of your senior year in high school? If so, I’m guessing whatever you pick will make a negligible difference.
This was originally posted in the transfer section that is why i wasn’t more clear about it but I am talking about my Spring schedule in Community College. I graduated in 2015, I am applying as a transfer. If it won’t make a negligible difference is there any point in taking the class @vhsdad
I teach computer science so I can tell you that any knowledge you gain in that area certainly couldn’t hurt. Since you have CCC experience, picking up the course should be no problem for you. Normally if there is a way for a graduation evaluator to find a way not to have one thing count for another, they will, so even though I have no answer to your question based on knowledge, experience tells me not bet the bank on it.
