UC Berkeley Regents Scholarship?

hmm yeah... I got UCB regents, but nothing from SD/LA/Davis... Have all those colleges already notified the applicants? It seems weird that I get regents from UCB but not SD/LA/Davis....

from what I understand Berkeley calculates its regents differently from the other UC's. Cal doesn't look so much at scores as what kind of person you are (i.e. what you put in the essay questions). Last year, I applied to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and UCSC and only recieved the regents for Berkeley.

heh yea i also only received Regents invite for Cal and not the other UCs i applied to. Well, I'm glad they at least think I'm a decent person.

And for some people its the other way around. They get one for all the schools but Berkely. (Obviously, there is another group of people who get both.) So I guess aidnked's explanation makes sense...

when berkeley nominates students for regents scholarships, do they read the applicants' essays too? Or just the gpa, and SAT scores

the whole package. GPA, SAT scores, ECs, essays, etc.

the only campus other than cal to have a two-stage process is ucla, which has you get some letters of rec and write an essay. the other campuses just give you the scholarship.

cal extends the RC scholarship to ~600 people, ~200 of whom end up attending.

after i got the packet for the regents scholarship is it just the interview or do we have to fill out a secondary application

The interview is all you have to do. You can bring a letter of rec if you want, but it isn't necessary. You don't have to go to the interview if you're from out of state.

I feel so much better now, you guys. After getting deferred EA, I was having really bad dreams about not getting into college at all. Thank you UCs!

btw about 1000 get the regents schol. invitation 600 get the offer those are good odds right?

Yeah, I would say so. In the world of competitive college admissions, 60% is pretty huge. I felt the bigger thing about Regents other than the scholarship was the fact that you're basically in at Berkeley, a world-class university. It's a huge relief for me.

Even if you feel that your interview goes terribly, which is how I felt about mine, don't get too worried because a lot of the RC scholars I talked to seemed to think that as long as you interviewed and your recommendations weren't damning you were pretty much guarenteed it. Also, I don't know how on top of things they'll be this year, but if it doesn't show up right away online that you got the scholarship when the official admissions decisions come out, keep on checking because I originally thought that I didn't get the scholarship and then it ended up appearing a few days later.

thanks for the advice, but do you know of anyone who got the invitation, but not an acceptance. Nowhere on the invitation does it say that you are accepted.

yes, but how could you be one of the top 1000 applicants to UCB, yet not one of the 9000 accepted? provided you do everything you would as if you were accepted (maintaining grades, not getting into trouble with the police, graduating from high school) I believe you will be able to attend.

Regents' Scholarship gauruntees you admissions. My friend who was a Regents' scholar says that the first thing your interviewer will say is that you got in.

They officially tell you at the reception desk where you get your name tag.

allthosedays-
JoeBobHalley's post on the previous page implies that only California in-state applicants are considered for the Regents' Scholarship, but you wrote, "You don't have to go to the interview if you're from out of state."

Do you know which is correct--are out-of-staters eligible or not?

For me, I got Regents at UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara, but not Berkeley or UCLA. Bastards.

So far I;ve gotten UCLA and Berkeley
