Totally forgot I was in the experience Berkeley program too lol
@hailey5799 hi Hailey I’m from DVC too! TAP is only for students from very disadvantaged backgrounds (like first gen, low income, vet, etc.) and they usually recruit from students who are part of campus support systems like EOPS etc. Even if you don’t qualify I suggest spreading the word to friends who might, it’s an amazing program. Usually have to meet with a Berkeley rep to join.
Experience Berkeley is a weekend long summer program that basically gives attendees a rundown about the application program. It’s also basically for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. I agree our counselors aren’t very helpful.
I was in SPMP for 3 semesters, it fills up fast and they have been selective lately (there is a preference for students from disadvtaged backgrounds.) They just pair you with a transfer student who gives you emotional support lol and answers your questions. Fall semesters are competitive. Sometimes there’s a GPA requirement too, like 3.2+
My best friend who goes to CAL got rejected from UCLA. I am definitely going to have a hard choice to make, but still holding out for Berkeley (dream school)…so who knows. So excited to have gotten into UCLA though, also a dream come true.
Also, my new admit tour thing went away too! which literally gave me chills – but im thinking thats normal, not sure though. Also now have 4 addresses and still have the SIR $250 in my finances.
@ugh4145 I asked in the LA thread, this may be because the waitlist students are not included in the total yet
I want Berkeley so bad
I was admitted to Haas in 2016. Let me know if anyone has any questions.
My boyfriend is a sociology major who applied to Berkeley. Are there any other sociology majors here?
@doglover95 sociology major here too!
@jobsoutofcollege UCs legally cannot consider race in admissions. Having friends of all races does not exclude you from being racist. You are racist.
@jobsoutofcollege You realize that AA is banned in the UC system right?
I’d also like to add that I was looking at the numbers for those admitted to UCLA in previous years:
There were around 22,000 applicants to UCLA from 2016-2018. In years 2016 and 2017, UCLA admitted around 5500 applicants. This year with 23,000 applicants, they admitted 3200.
There has been an increase in the number of applicants to UC’s in the last couple of years.
A theory that has been circling around is that if you were rejected from UCLA, you might have a good chance of being accepted to Cal. The reason being that the top UC’s will want to maintain a low acceptance rate in correspondence with a high enrollment rate. ie: if you were accepted to both UCLA and Cal, you’d only be able to attend one school. Therefore, if you chose Cal over UCLA, then UCLA’s enrollment rate will be lowered.
Berkeley has had around 19,000 applicants for the last couple of years, accepting around 4500 students. It is possible that Berkeley will also reduce the number of admitted students this year. However, it is also likely that if top students were not given admission at UCLA, they will receive it at Cal.
In addition to these numbers, I have personal anecdotal evidence that may also put this theory in favor. Haas has around a 6% acceptance rate. UCLA’s version of Haas is Business Econ, with an 11% acceptance rate. However, most of my transfer class into Haas were only admitted to Haas, and not admitted to UCLA’s business econ. There were a few who were admitted to both, but were part of the TAP program, like myself.
Good luck to you all.
@hailey5799 you’re right! Hopefully we’ll both be poli sci students at Berkeley this fall
@choukevin he’s not gonna admit to that bc then he can’t blame the minorities for his rejection anymore
@OhWhatsHerName Were you accepted to UCLA, if you dont mind me asking?
@jobsoutofcollege hold up and let me move my bang and make sure I read that correctly
@blueraccoon13 good luck and yes that is true. As far as most private schools and people applying out of high school, the fact that you pay twice the amoUnt is a big plus!
Hi everyone! I just got waitlisted for UCLA but Cal has always been my dream school so here I am…
Major: Society and Environment
GPA: 4.0
Pre-reqs: Done by Spring
TAP: No
ECs: Senior & Sophomore Class President, Middle school Dance Instructor, competitive dance team, lots of volunteer work, etc…
Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCI, UCSD
Accepted: UCI
Waitlisted: UCLA
Pending: UCB, UCSD
Wishing everyone the best of luck for Berkeley. I am very hopeful especially after UCLA’s letters today.
@doglover95 Thank you for the input. Haas applicant here (there’s another thread for it), but how is it that you figure that it has a 6% admit rate? If I’m not mistaken, that’s a number based off of the entire pool of applicants, including those who were deemed ineligible by admission requirements.
Per Haas, they’ve noted that of those eligible, 15.75% were admitted.
Chances are tough, but at least not as low as 6% lucky for us
@viviantong my son looks so cute in your avi
I do realize that. However, you should take note that no other school or major differentiates between the “eligible” applicants versus ineligible. Therefore, yes I do see that the acceptance rate is higher for the eligible applicants for Haas, but of the 11% of Bus Econ admits to UCLA, there should also be a higher acceptance rate if just accounting for eligible students.
Therefore the 16% acceptance rate is negligible since no other school or major differentiates the eligible versus ineligible applicants who applied for different programs.
@doglover95 I didn’t apply! I’m a CSU transfer with a not perfect GPA (I assume it’s between 3.6-3.7 depending on which classes transfer) so I wanted to limit myself and only apply to one reach.
