Anyone else in the same boat?
Yeah, im on the waitlist but I’m not completely sure if this it’s a positive sing. I mean, why not reject me if I’m not good enough, ya know?
yep, I dont really know what I would write in that additional info box for the waitlist though.
I’d like to see some stats of how many waitlisters got admitted in the past.
I know people got deferred to Spring 2017. So what does that mean for us, are we less qualified than those that were not given the Fall 2016 option, or can we be deferred as well to Spring 2017 if we’re taken off the waitlist
Do any of you guys know why the option to provide spring grades and a personal essay is optional? I mean wouldn’t everyone opt in to do that if they’re on the wait list? Also for providing spring grades it says to upload an unofficial transcript of “FINAL” grades… But how do we do that if our grades aren’t finalized yet (my finals start after May15 when the wait list opt in is due). It says you can either do that or just write in what grades you got… But how could they even fact check that if your grades aren’t final yet?
I am just worried cuz there’s one class I currently have a B in… But I’m fairly confident after I take the Final I’ll have an A in the class. So I would rather have that possible final A be considered rather than the B I have right now, you know? But then again how important are the spring grades in them re-considering our applications, since submitting your grades is optional… Ugh I’m probably gonna call them on Monday.
Never mind… Grade is updated and is now an A lol… But still wondering why they make it optional?
how many people do they take off the waitlist for transfers?
@hdoan24 last year they took 55% of the freshmen. not sure about transfers though.
@browneyedgirl95 we needa get off this waitlist lol
I asked a representative at Transfer Fair this week. He said this is the first year to do the waitlist for transfer students. And also, there are not too many students on the waitlist. He couldn’t tell me the exact number, but I think we both have a great chance to get off the waitlist.
@BetraySoul Yeah, it seems like the wait list for transfers is really small considering how little traction this forum has… Weird because the freshmen wait list is so huge. Did he say why they decided to do a wait list this year for transfers?
I posted earlier in the Berkeley transfer thread but they all ignored me.
Anyone know when they might release waitlist admissions?
Also I couldn’t enter my Spring grades because I have no idea what they are. I just barely finished up my finals
@BetraySoul omg don’t get my hopes up
@bolognese probably not until after June 1st, since that’s the SIR deadline for the already accepted transfers
What did everyone write for their essay? I just wrote about how I became an even stronger student and political activist since the submission of my application
@hdoan24 have you received any notices?
This was my waitlist opt-in essay:
As a non-traditional student, community organizer, and Mexicayotl dancer, the diverse campus experience offered by Berkeley would be mutually beneficial for my personal growth as an educator and to the university’s diversification efforts. Attending Berkeley’s undergraduate program as a Chicano(a) Studies major would allow me to continue my participation in community oriented activities that are closely associated with my field of study. I will act as a bridge between the university, its students, and its surrounding community. As a heavily involved student, I will serve as a resource of experience for the development of restorative justice programs that benefit the Berkeley community. I am interested in organizations like Danza In Xochitl In Cuicatl, who aid student and community wellness through their cultural and spiritual practice. Apart from being the only Mexicayotl group that is officially integrated into a university’s program, this collective presents a unique opportunity for me to share the Mexicayotl culture among an academic community. In addition, I am highly interested in pursuing my postgraduate study at the doctoral level, and attending Berkeley would improve my academic direction while providing a higher degree of opportunity to be selected as a McNair Scholar. When I learned I was placed on a waitlist, I did further research and have developed interest in community organizations like CURYJ (Community United for Restorative Youth Justice), in the Oakland area, because my grassroots experience as an organizer from Los Angeles can be shared with Bay area organizers to promote a versatile, highly informed, collective approach to their restorative justice efforts. Education and community involvement is at the core of Chicano(a) Studies and I have every intention of upholding these principles. Also, you may notice I have not taken any foreign language during college because I met the language requirement in accordance with the IGETC by taking 2 years of Spanish in high school.
(sadly, since i graduated hs 16 years ago, i was mistaken and did NOT pass said Spanish class, but as a native speaker of the language, i read, write, and speak it with proficiency. So ill just have to wait and see…)
If and when they accept waitlisted transfers, it will definitely be after June 1st. My friends who have gotten accepted to Berkeley told me there is no option to the decline admission – they just SIR to another campus and wait for the deadline to lapse. Other campuses like UCI and UCSD will accept waitlisters in batches after some admits decline admission.
I wish this thread were more active; I am quite anxious as the SIR deadline approaches! Good luck to all!
June first is around the corner! I’m a biochemistry major and I just got admitted to UCSD from the waitlist. Hopefully I have the same luck with the UCB waitlist (my gpa is not that great btw). Do any of you know how housing works for transfers? What tends to be cheaper, off-campus or on-campus housing?
I called the office and the representative said some decisions went out yesterday, and to check our e-mail every day this week for updates. I think everyone will know before the middle of the this month.
@rociotm I believe on-campus is more expensive because of meal plans. I plan to live off-campus
@hdoan24 some transfer decisions went out yesterday? Or were they freshmen?
He told me Transfer, all freshmen decisions were out already (according to the thread in the actual UCB CC forum)
