My best friend's daughter just went to orientation at UCB. Out of about 300 kids she met one other blonde California Girl in the old Beach Boys mold. They immediately noticed each other out of the group. So there will be at least 2 good looking California girls at UCB this Fall. My friend's daughter is a knockout. (He's a blonde Cali Boy and his wife is a blonde Swedish girl from Wisconsin. Can't beat good genes.

93% are from California
only 3% international

But, unlike Asian-Americans at the privates (who tend to be "twinkies"), Asians at Cal include many who are recent immigrants/low socio-economic background and thus, are basically "int'l".

barrons - are you implying that blondes = good-looking?

No, they are very good looking blondes. Also tall, thin and blonde is still pretty much the ideal California Girl look, the Kardashians not withstanding. I would say she is much more attractive than Paris Hilton. And smarter.

^ Don't forget, huge - um, "eyes".

(And PH, ughh, is not even remotely good-looking.)

I would agree with Alexandre--a lot of people here at Michigan would say that Berkeley has the edge over Michigan when it comes to overall measures of excellence. But really, the major factor for me would be cost.

Oh, just read his post, why should I repeat it all? LOL

they're peer schools and pretty match-up. But Berkeley has the edge here solely due to band name recognition.

UC Berkeley vs U Mich

Berkeley

If the OP were interested in the pure sciences or Engineering, I would agree Karina. However, he OP intends on majoring in Business, in which case, the two schools are even. But the OP is a resident of California, so unless Michigan offers an awesome scholarship, I agree with your assessment.

No brainer, this. Berkeley hands down!

For some reason the post I made yesterday was deleted (as if it never existed - post count went down 1 too).

Anyway, thanks to everyone for all your help. It looks like Berkeley wins here. Most of you have been extremely helpful and insightful and I'm glad you were able to help.

Another question I have for students or experts of both UCB and UMich is how are the grading curves? I spent the last 3 years at a VERY competetive high school with cutthroat competition. I'm open to new challenges but I don't think I can take the same kind of academic environment for four years - that is, work hard for little payoff (non-correlating work to grade ratio or lower gpa).
