I can’t seem to choose. I’ve visited both and I love both campuses, but couldn’t vibe with the students at Berkeley. I was admitted into the College of Chemistry at Cal for Chemical Biology and Dornsife at USC for Chemistry if that helps! Both schools are roughly the same price for me, and I have a substantial amount of CC and AP credits as an incoming freshman. I don’t know many people who go to these schools pre-med, and I would really appreciate some insight as to which would be the optimal path to build a great undergrad resume for a prospective med student. Thanks!
Medical schools won’t care where you go. If Berkeley didn’t feel right, don’t go there.
UC Berkeley is probably a little more competitive than USC to get top grades, which may determine whether you get into a top 50 medical school. Work on getting a good MCAT score.
I vote for USC. The private school environment should help you as a pre-med. Also, USC has a medical school on-campus whereas UC Berkeley does not. The medical school on-campus will be a good resource to use during your last undergraduate years.
USC’s Keck Medical School is actually not on the USC campus. It is located in the area and adjacent to the LA County Hospital, which is about 10 miles from the main campus. The Pharmacy School is also located there. Dental School is located on the main campus.
UC Berkeley’s medical school is considered to be UCSF, located across the Bay Bridge in SF.
