I was accepted into both UC Berkeley and UT Austin for business and was wondering which one is better in terms of recruiting for major financial firms. I have received a 20k scholarship to UT, and live in Texas (in state tuition), while Berkeley would be around 50k a year. My major concerns are placement in top MBA programs (Stanford, Wharton etc) and recruiting to major financial firms (Blackstone, Goldman etc) Please give me some advice!

Both are great schools for business. All the bb banks and boutiques recruit at both for ib and s&t. Blackstone does not at mccombs, nor other PE/HFs, may at berkeley tho. On the flip side, mccombs does get the big e&p guys recruiting for their trading desks, ie bp ist. MBA? Worry about that later, enjoy college first, it’ll be fine. GL

Go to UT

I earned an MBA with honors from a top business school. To get into a top program, your grades, GMAT score, and work experience will be far, far more important than where you went to college. And Texas is a really good business school, much better than the college I attended. And in my humble opinion, Berkeley isn’t half the college town that Austin is.

Save your money, enjoy college, and get good grades. That’s my advice for anyone that intends to go to professional school (law, business, or medicine) or expects to go on to PhD. Nobody cares where his or her doctor or lawyer went to college.

Berkeley all the way. A much better quality school. If it was I’m state I would definitely choose Berkeley over UT, especially for business. But my Parents are making me stay in state.
