Now I feel like they put us on waitlist so they don’t have to deal with many appeals…
@Orangered123 Are you sure your friend has the right info? I mean, I know there aren’t that many ppl on this thread, but it seems weird that no one here would hear back in this first wave your friend’s friends were in.
Also, do you know what major/college they were in? Maybe Haas or Engineering release waitlist info earlier than L&S, which I would imagine most people here fall under.
yeah i’m L&S i would assume they would release decisions for L&S first like how they did for freshman. But if we don’t hear nothing during this week i think i’m just gonna give up cause it’s so stressful to keep waiting
@Orangered123 http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/1977803-uc-berkeley-2021-waitlist-thread-p119.html read the post at #1774 and #1775. Freshman receives rejection letter at June 3ed, so theoretically comparing to us, we will receive rejection letter around July 3ed. but if you are sure your folks got rejected already. Things may be different for transfers.
@saimin123 did you already pay for the orientation? It is extra $160, will I get refunded if I don’t show up?
@Puriabestia I’ve been lurking here for a while but I saw your post and had to chime in. I’m CogSci as well and got accepted to UCSD but SIRed to Davis. Obviously we’re both on the waitlist at Berkeley because we’re both on this thread, but I just thought I’d pop by and let you know that I am LITERALLY in the same situation as you. Hopefully decisions are posted this week.
Wait damn. There’s a lot of CogSci waitlists.4 of us on this thread so far. I assume we can take that as good news since they seem to “expect” have prepared for a number of people saying no to Berkeley? Hoping we hear back today.
@thekevinguy
Aye, good luck mang-- if not, I’ll see you at Davis.
@Orangered123
If you look at the stats from last year out of 140+ applicants for CogSci, 17 were admitted and 8 accepted so…

@sean1995 I don’t know about that, I can check tho.
Hey, folks, there are a lot of nervous and upset people on this thread and I see some bitterness starting to form so I want to share my experience. I’m accepted at UC Davis and declined an offer to UCLA, which I wanted to attend even more than Cal, but had to decline for family reasons. This year is the 2nd time that I have applied to Cal and I was insulted that they waitlisted me, even after I did a Berkeley Lab bioengineering internship and completed more courses just to get into Cal. Last summer after being rejected, I deferred at UC Davis. Then I went on a trip to Europe and saw some big mountains, met some friendly people (especially the Italians!) ate some good food and toured a lot of chateaus and cathedrals… all of which were cooler and older than the UC Berkeley campus. I came home and couldn’t care less about the Campanile. I had a different perspective (at least for a while) after seeing some of the French universities and hearing about the biology programs. Then I did an LBL internship and met people with PhDs from MIT, met people from Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium. People with awesome accents that were just here for a short time and were now looking at working in some insanely cool place that I’d never dreamed I could work in. And they added me to their LinkedIn accounts, which could open up opportunities for me.
Here’s the thing… I don’t think the UC we go to matters too much. UC Davis may be a school for people who couldn’t get into Berkeley in some peoples’ minds, but it’s still an awesome school, that many people would love to attend but can’t. I think that wherever we go, we can be awesome and do great things. The entire UC system is amazing. I’ve accepted my fate at Davis and I’m getting excited about it. It’s an awesome campus and everyone I’ve met is friendly. There are some brilliant people there. I’m getting an electric skateboard that goes like 25 mph so I can keep up with the bikers. I’m looking forward to meeting people that can help me transition to the professional world afterwards, and hoping to do another DOE internship, maybe at LLNL. I don’t know if this is encouraging to anyone, but the world is a biiiiig place and there’s a crap ton of opportunity at any UC. Heck, my poor husband attended Cal State East Bay and he now makes six figures is thinking about getting similar work in Italy or France (I vote for Italy!) Keep your heads up, people. The future at UCD, UCSB, UCLA, wherever you go, all depends on us and our optimism.
So uh, I don’t think we’re hearing back anything today. Crossing my fingers and knocking on wood that tomorrow gives us some info.
That said, today is the last day for a “early” this week deadlines. If nobody hears back today that probably means the first wave has already went out and none of us were in it. They must be accepting very few people off the waitlist.
So I have an identical twin brother who got accepted under Integrative Biology (same as me). However I was waitlisted. He asked the Berkeley Tranfer Class of 2019 Facebook page if anyone of them were formerly waitlisted and got accepted. Only one person replied back and according to her she received her email on June 6.
So I guess the first wave went out. I’m not too optimistic for us then. It looks like Cal’s transfer waitlist is working like a top private university’s freshmen waitlist where very few people get accepted off the list.
Not at all like Cal’s freshmen waitlist where about half the people get acceptances.
Been lurking this thread for a while to see if I could get any indication about when appeal decisions will be released. I’m not on the waitlist but I am appealing. CC does not have threads that give any insight about when/if first wave of appeal decisions are/were released.
I can confirm for you all that at least the first wave of waitlisted decisions have been sent. I was in a UCB transfer program and some people I know from the program were accepted off of the waitlist last week, around Tuesday or Wednesday. Don’t let that get your hopes down though. There is still a chance for you all. Don’t lose hope until you actually see a denial letter.
Has anybody heard any news about appeal decisions? Or, how it works? Like, do they release all waitlist decisions first before appeals?
@blackdragon209 On Tuesday or Wednesday? That means that they seem to be releasing at anytime then. Not sticking to Friday.
Also thanks for the information!
At least they should tell us the time of different releasing date! We are waitting! And we even don’t know how many people we are competing with and how many people will eventually get in. This is the most unpleasant waiting I have ever been. Plz don’t only care about the mental health of your admitted students…
Damn, anyone give me a suggestion to where I should “suggest” Cal about this?
if they released the first wave last week then the next wave probably won’t hear back till what next week? (if there’s even one)
I’m guessing that tomorrow will be the last day we should expect an update. Last year, people received an update that the waitlist was closed on the 21st, which would be next week for us.
Man, I’m really bummed out that we didn’t get in on the first wave. I guess it’s back to another year at my CC and try again next year.
My MAP portal tells me that I should hear a response for my appeal by June 17th 2017.
Is that the same for you all on the waitlist?
I can’t see anything for my waitlist information.
