UC Berkeley

I'm going to be a junior in high school and I really want to go to UC Berkeley! I hope to be a corporate lawyer! Do you think I have a chance of getting in?

GPA is 4.333. Rank is currently the top 1%. Hopefully will be at least top 5% for rest of high school.

I haven't taken SATs yet but when I took PSAT at beginning of sophomore year my projected score for the SAT was about 1700-2000. This was before I had studied at all, but a while afterwards, I started studying by taking the SAT Question of the Day and learning some vocab words. I'm taking the PSAT again at the beginning of junior year and should improve a lot, then taking actual SAT towards end of junior year. Also, I scored 90, 94, 96 % higher than other sophomores so I think that was pretty good..

My goal is at least 2100 on the SAT.

I took 2 honors classes freshmen year, 1 honor and 1 AP sophomore year. This has been the most you can take. Next year I am taking the 3 AP classes, the most you can take is 5. Senior year I should take about 4 APs. I think I passed the one AP test I took, and plan to study/try to pass all the tests I take.

The clubs I'm in are National Honors Society, California Scholarship Federation, French Club, and another club that prevents drug/alcohol use in teens. Next year I'm joining Speech and Debate and a community service club. I'm also planning to start a club.

I plan to have at least 300 community service hours by the time I apply. I've done a lot of my volunteering at two places, steadily, so that shows commitment, right?

I'm also planning to sign up with a charity, in which I'll be charge of running clean ups in our area, as well as doing some other things to help environment.

I'm going to have an internship over summer with the district office of my area's congressmen.

Can I get in? What are other schools you'd reccommend for me & which schools could be reach, match, safety schools for me.

P.S. Sorry this is so long!!
And are there any other things that would look good?
And any tips for the SAT, AP tests, etc?

If there is anyone who went to Berkeley, or got accepted/rejected, what were your stats and why do you think you did/did not get in.

Chill. Keep this up and you’ll get in.

thank you! =)

Hey, I’m going to Berkeley next year! Yay! Here are my stats:

SAT: 2290 (CR 800, M 690, W 800)
SAT II: Lit 770, Math II 700, US History 710
GPA: 4.0 unweighted (I’ve always been too lazy to calculate the weighted GPA…I would guess around 4.4 or so)

National Merit Finalist
NHS President
CSF 6/6 semesters
varsity volleyball
volunteer work at the local library (nowhere near as many hours as you have!)
summer internship with a magazine
stage crew
and then a couple of other weird clubs only my schools has (haha)

It looks like you’re on track, but I’m going to warn you - there is an urban legend of sorts that UC Berkeley (and UCLA) toss out applications with an SAT score LOWER than 2100. There’s no way of knowing whether this is true, BUT…I know a lot of strong candidates with scores between over 2000 but under 2100 who were rejected from Berkeley. To be on the safe side, aim to hit at least 700 in every subject, and make sure your transcript is immaculate. I’ve found that Berkeley doesn’t care as much about “personality” as other schools, say USC, do.

Good luck! Hope to see you in a couple of years!
