UC chance threads are so overrated :P

Before, you chance me, please read this:

So I came from India in my junior year. Because of this, I wasn't allowed to take any Honors classes that year, and the AP classes (such as Psychology and USH) I could take (that were available, at least) were ones I felt I would surely do bad in, so I only took 1 AP class in my junior year (AP Statistics). I mentioned this in the application. Also, because of this, I don't have many volunteering hours and I didn't have any opportunities to volunteer anywhere during the summer of my junior year. I did not mention this.
Also, in my old school in India and in the Board Exams, an aggregate percentage of 75%+ is considered a Grade I with Distinction (which is like an A in the U.S.) Everyone had to take the same required courses, so there weren't any AP/Honors courses at my old school.

So please chance me for all UCs! (except Merced.) I'm mainly aiming for

UC Berkeley

and

UCLA

. My intended major is

EECS

.

I. **Grades, GPA and class rank:/b

Freshman year:
I got a 78% in the final exam. I did kind of bad because I was in the U.S. for the entire first semester of school (I mentioned this on UC app), and the final exam was cumulative and so tested on the entire year's worth of material.

Sophomore year:
Got a 88% in the state Board Exams.

VI. Award(s):
Got a certificate from my former school for receiving the highest marks in the school in Science in the Board Exams.

VII. Essays:
First essay: I wrote about the time I moved back to India after the sixth grade and my challenges in overcoming the adjusting issues through the lens of an exam setting.
Second Essay: I wrote about my interest in electrical engineering from a young age, with my dad helping to stimulate this interest.

VIII. Residency:
I am a California resident, and I am a permanent resident of the U.S.

As a side note, I am currently self-studying for AP Calculus BC and AP Physics C: Mechanics & Electricity and Magnetism. I doubt this will be counted though, although I mentioned on the app that I intended to take the AP exams for these subjects.

Thank you for reading through all of this! I really appreciate it, and will chance you back if you so wish! :D

Your GPA and SAT 1 are pretty good, def berkeley caliber. However, your subject test scores are weak and UC’s consider those heavily especially for engineers. Your ECs are also very, very weak. You’re an ORM, and your essays sound cliche too.

Low reach for Berkeley
High match UCLA

Thanks for the input! We’ll see how it goes!

■■■■■ fell behind in just one day

Pretty nice profile. I’d see a slight reach at Berkeley, in at all the others.

Have a look at my chance thread too.

ucla and uc berk take a holistic view - so your ethnicity may harm you. on the brighter side of things, even though ucla and uc berk are holistic, much, and i mean MUCH more emphasis is put on your gpa and sat. those are a match.

the other UCs are comprehensive. they calculate your acceptances based on your gpa, sat, and other factors.

i’d say every other UC can be considered a safety. ucsd could be considered a high match.

I thought they couldn’t discriminate based on race/ethnicity due to some Act…

Rejected from UCLA… :(

Rejected from UCSD too… what are my chances at

Berkeley

?

I’m going to be honest, if you got rejected to UCLA and San Diego, I’d say the odds are not in your favor to go to Berkeley :(

I know :frowning:
It’ll take a miracle to get in at this rate…
