UC Chances por favor!?

hey guys,

current junior, engineering, environmental/alternative energies or CS

UCB, UCLA, UCI, UCSD for sure, maybe SB, DAVIS, SC, and not riverside or merced.

gpa: about high 3.5ish currently, but showing an upward trend\d, projected to be about high 3.6 low 3.7 by senior year first sem.( all unwiehted, I think my UC and weighted are high don't know yet though...)

Sat's: currently 2100, retaking in Jan.

AP's: euro: 3
psych: 3
taking in the future: AP Lang, comp sci, USH, environmental(maybe), calc AB, and physics B, maybe C...

Course Rigor: MY BIGGEST WEAKNESS!. freshman year, all honors etc... but soph. all hon./ap except for math and sci. due to a C+ in geometry( only C), so I couldn't meet the prerequs for hons, but im pretty sure I would've handled it.=(, same into junior year. but senior year, due to a tweak in my schedule, I will be able to take AP math and sci courses. and rest honors. ( go to a really competitive magnet sch.).

SAT 2: yet to take, probably math 2, physics and ush this year.

EC'S: not a lot, like six years of club swim, all four years hig sch. swim, about 150- 250 hours depending on situation, but not that much great club service, might get a cabinet position next year.... and a cople other things that may stand out, but none compared to ivy leaguers on this site.

please help and tell me what I can improve on=)

you are set for most ucs! maybe you can start your essay now, that is the third big part of the application. starting a club might be good and start aiming for cabinet positons. try getting a engineering extracurriculars, and gathering up/obtaining awards. goodluck!

I graduated last year, so I know how competitive the UCs are nowadays. It’s really a crap shoot – some people who deserve to get into higher ranking schools just don’t. However, with your scores I think you will definitely have a chance at Santa Barbra and Irvine. Being an engineering major definitely makes it harder to get a spot in Berkeley or UCLA. Your SAT score is solid though, I got accepted to (and attend) UCLA with a 1970. Just make sure you continue to keep your grades up and take challenging courses, it would also help to throw in some community service. UCs love to see that you have ECs outside school.

thanks guys! can u tell me how to improve my chances for UCB OR LA… like how to stand out for the engineering majors?

If you’re an engineer, being a great writer looks pretty impressive. Also taking leadership positions in clubs/activities sets you apart from other applicants. Schools are always looking for engineers who aren’t weird shut-ins – and that have other interests outside getting good grades. Weird and unique hobbies are always bonuses.

UCB: High Match (GPA is the problem here)
UCLA: High Match (GPA)
UCI: Safety
UCSD: Match
UCSB: Safety
UCSC: Safety

Chance me

UCD:

at UCLAFariy… I have published an article in our local magazine that kinda had to do with something engineering related. would that help? but thanks for the other great advice! ill try to work on getting involved in clubs. and JustinBryce… if I do end up with higher sat scores and decent ap/sat 2 scores, would that make up for gpa… btw I am showing an upward trend, I thought that colleges would like that? thanks, anyone else?=)

bummmmmmmmmp

You can’t submit January’s SAT scores before the UC deadline

"please help and tell me what I can improve on=) "
get 2400 on SAT, 800 on your SATII tests, cure cancer
=p

ucla ucb maybe a reach

^Justin Bryce, ??? im a junior… I thought I would be able to submit any test I take this year?,

wally west, If u have done those things, give me some advice =() I need it

Unfortunately, your low GPA hurts you.

Cal, UCLA - Low reaches
SD - match
Davis, SB, Irvine - low match
SC - safety

Oh I’m sorry I didn’t see that
Yeah you can submit that haha

buuuuuuuuump, anyone else?..=)

buuuuuuump

I would apply to more schools I wouldn’t consider UCI a safety.
UCI, SB, Davis: Match
Ucla: High match
UCB: low reach
UCSC: low match

Chance back?

b uuuuuuuuuuump

You seem good for most ucs except for maybe la and Berkeley are high match/reach. For clear assessment, calculate your uc gpa which is not too complicated. You will rid that online. Sat is decent too but maybe not for the top ones. Although engineering is tough, you have a good shot becuase of all the execs over all of high school. Post your clubs and activities on the thread but overall I would say in for everything and 50/50 for la and Berkeley. Good luck!
