UC chances

3.45 UC GPA (Bad grades in my early high school career hold me back, but there is clear improvement upon those grades, something UC likes)

26 ACT composite score

I've taken six APs between junior and senior year. My scores from last year were two fives and a four.

Great Extracurriculars (Speech and debate captain, mock trial attorney, president of another small school club, and two journalism activities in print and broadcasting which convey my interest in journalism, which I want to follow through on with my communications/media studies major).

Impressive essays (My personal statement is really emotional, introspective, and good at exemplifying my personal growth over the years. I'm also a pretty good writer in and of itself.)

Lots of personal adversity (I've had depression my whole due to having an autistic twin, watching a kid at my school kill himself my sophomore year, and by being put into a mental hospital. I really try to show how all of these experiences made me stronger and due to them I started taking school a lot more seriously my junior and senior year, which is reflected in my positive grade trend.)

What do you guys think my chances at each school are?
Also, here are my majors for your reference:
UCB: Media Studies
UCLA: Poli Sci
UCSD: Communications
UCSB: Communications
UCI: Literary Journalism
UCD: Communications
UCSC: Politics
USR: Media Studies

UCB: Media Studies - High Reach
UCLA: Poli Sci - Reach
UCSD: Communications - Low Reach
UCSB: Communications - High Match
UCI: Literary Journalism - High Match
UCD: Communications - Low Reach
UCSC: Politics - Match
USR: Media Studies - Match

The mid level UCs have been quite selective recently. Aside from UCR (match) and UCSC (high match), all are reaches. If you can show them your unique abilities through essays, you still have a shot, however.

I’m in a very similar situation. As long as you make yourself stand out in your personal statement and keep the grades up, you’d be a very competitive applicant.

Chance me back please? :)
