Okay so I am a high school senior and I have a UC/CSU GPA of 3.91 and an SAT score of 1840, but I'm planning to retake the SAT and hopefully get a score of over 2000. I have taken what I think is a substantial amount of honors and AP classes. I am currently enrolled in My main concern is my lack of extracurriculars. I have played the violin ever since I was in the 3rd grade, but I stopped after junior year, so that would be 8 years. I also participated in an orchestra ever since I was in the 5th grade, so that would be 6 years. I joined a few clubs at my school, but I've only been really active in JSA, but even then, I don't hold any leadership position. I would love to go to UCSB, but now I don't know if that's possible due to my lack of extracurriculars. What are my chances? And if I can't get into UCSB, then what are my chances at other UCs/CSUs?

For CSU’s, there are only 4 questions on the application regarding EC’s so they are not a major part of your application. CSU’s mainly focus on you GPA and test scores.
For the UC’s, EC’s will come into play but how much really depends upon each school. UCB and UCLA tend to be more holisitic in their admissions and EC’s will have a greater impact on your application. For UCSB, they are considered but I do not think they will make or break your application. Your SAT however will impact your application unless you do get it up to a 2000.

Right now, depending upon your major, you have a good chance at UCSC/UCR/UCM/SDSU/CSULB/CSUF/SJSU/CPP.

If you get that SAT above 2000, then UCSB/UCD/UCI would be within reach and possibly Cal Poly SLO.

Good Luck.

Thank you for your time!
