^^ What makes you want to consider Davis again??

^^ So here’s the deal. My first choice major and passion is in Communications. I got accepted to comm for Davis. But at UCLA I got accepted for anthro which is my second choice back up major. I was looking at UCLA’s comm departments website and i got all super excited reading about the curriculum and the areas of study. And if I go to Davis, I can have that!

My brother goes to UCLA and I was talking to him about it and he said it’s like a .5% chance of changing to comm since its super impacted. On the other hand my brother switched to Business-econ at UCLA and he took the risk of going into some major that he didn’t really want either. But he was already SET on going to UCLA no matter what.

damn it.

got into davis with a 3.1 gpa

For those of you who got accepted to Davis, would you consider attending the school? Davis has the specific major I want but a lot of people keeps telling me that it’s really boring. I guess I just want to hear more opinions from fellow transfers! Thanks

I’m really considering attending. Not only is it an excellent school academically, but there’s also a lot of research/internship opportunities I hear. I’ve also heard that it isn’t boring so long as you keep busy and stay active on campus (and why wouldn’t someone want to do that anyway?). I don’t know, but most students love the campus and atmosphere at Davis. In the end, college is what one makes of it. If one goes in with a poopy, apathetic attitude then you obviously won’t have a pleasant time.

Davis is only boring if you don’t actively look for something to do or if all you do is sit in your room all day. There’s a lot of school spirit here at Davis.

@ Praewa: It was kind of a hard choice for me since I got into my choice major at Davis. My first choice has been UCLA since back in 2009 but honestly UCLA has not crossed my mind for over a year now just because I was trying to be realistic. Hell, UCLA was the whole reason that I returned to school back in 09. So the past few weeks I hyped up Davis so much and I fell in love with the school. So now that I DID get accepted to UCLA I was not only shocked but had to make a huge choice. I ultimately decided on UCLA and sent the SIR on Friday.

@Stressy: I’m really considering attending UC Davis too. It was my first choice ever since I started community college 3 years ago, but I also got into Cal Poly SLO. My major is Chemistry. I’m not sure which schools have the better program. Will you be visiting Davis on May 11th??

@sopranokitty: do you know if the sororities on campus are hard to join? I might consider that.

@iDizzle: Congrats on SIRing!!! It’s official! you’re going to UCLA! . My friend is in a similar situation as you and I think he will ultimately choose UCLA over Davis too. I would love to go to SoCal for college but the only college I got into in SoCal is Riverside, waitlisted from SD & rejected from Irvine.

@ Praewa: Thanks. I really just had to suck it up, close my eyes, and click decline for Davis and the other schools. Once I declined it, there was nothing else I could do but choose LA. lol. What are your other choices? Riverside is not too bad, I used to frequent the area a lot when my friends were going there. But on the other hand, Davis IS much more prestigious than Riverside. Do you plan to write that essay for SD? I got waitlisted for SD as well./

@iDizzle: UCLA is such a good school and in such a good location (for me personally). My other choices other than Davis are UCSB, Cal Poly SLO, & SJSU. If I choose SJSU, then I’ll be living at home so I don’t think I want to go there. I’m planning on writing the UCSD essay! You’re so lucky you already made your decision and won’t have to worry about all this college stuff anymore! I’m still worried about it almost everyday! Ugh! I still need to visit Davis. Did you like the area when you visited??!!

@Praewa: Well good luck! Hope you get into SD so you can give socal a shot =]. I actually never visited Davis but was planning to. I think its cool how Davis is so bike friendly though. Same with SB. That’s why I’m planning to live within a mile of UCLA since the traffic, commuting situation is so bad there. I just want to walk to campus. lol. And its less bike friendly in LA too. Lots of people DO ride bikes but you’re more likely to get hit by a car riding a bike than if you just walk. haha.

Sort of glad that I got waitlisted for SD so it didn’t make my decision for UCLA even harder. I used to go to UCR, UCI, UCSD, and UCLA quite often to hang out with friends when they were dorming and UCSD was always my favorite. Hope you get in!

Hi,

I am accepted to UC Davis as transfer (computer science).
But I have some problems that need help/opinions from all of you.

There was some inconsistency in the coursework I reported.
I was supposed to take 3 courses for Winter 2012(English, Engineering Physics, Linear Algebra) and 2 courses for Spring 2012 (Vector Calculus, Electric Circuits).
I then changed my mind and only took 2 courses(Engineering Physics, and Linear Algebra) and graduated from community college and never take spring courses. (My parents wanted me to come back to Indonesia and help in the company for a while)

I read from the condition of admission that I am not allowed to drop classes In Progress and Planned and i think i did both.

Will my admission get cancelled?
I have updated my most recent grades and courseswork and has ASK GUNROCK for 2 times(last 9 days and today) and has not received any feedback/answers.

junsugal: I am also a transfer student going to Davis. I chose to drop a class. I did get an email back from gunrock but I also chose to call admissions. I spoke to someone and told them I couldn’t wait for a return email as the deadline to drop was this week at my cc. She transferred me to someone in charge and she told me to go ahead and drop the class, update my application course work, an she would personally approve it and send me the approval email. I did all this in 15 min. So I will give you the number to call. Press 2 for transfers, then tell the person on the phone that you really need to speak to a supervisor or someone higher up as you need an answer asap and cannot wait to see the result of dropping through an email. Good luck!

And for future questions, it is best of you start a new thread with your question instead of tagging on to an existing thread that is a different topic. More people will see your thread that way.

@Inquiringmind2 : Thanks a lot! Will keep that in mind.

@ junsugal: You should call admissions and notify them of the change asap.

@ Praewa: I will be! Will you? I’m not sure about Chem at either one, but it shouldn’t merely be based on prestige of a program, in my opinion. You also want to feel comfortable in the environment of the school, otherwise your grades may suffer. Look at the overall picture and then make your choice, just a suggestion!

Howdy! Accepted as a sophomore transfer (I live in SoCal, currently study in NY, and just got accepted to Davis last week).

My HS GPA was around 3.4 UW and 3.7 weighed, and my first semester college GPA was a 3.75 (I had ONE B+… argh). SAT superscored was 2230, and I’ve gotten straight 4’s in AP European History, US History, Physics, Biology, Statistics, and English Literature and Composition.

Since Davis only takes applicants for its College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, I applied as an Academic Explorations Program (Undeclared/Exploratory) major with Community and Regional Development as my second choice major. I’m planning on pre-med and econ or finance, and I was wondering how easy it would be to switch colleges at Davis? Or am I not allowed to switch colleges yet until later (possibly my junior year)?

To anyone else waiting as a wait-list for another school like me (waiting for UCSD).

If you’re worried about the 500$ deposit for housing and not getting your money back on time if you decided to withdraw your SIR to Davis–I emailed housing and they said it is fine and your 500$ will be refunded if you let them know before JUNE 30TH. This is perfect for me especially, because UCSD will release wait-list decisions around early June. :P, just thought I’d post it on here and let peeps know incase others were wondering and in the same boat as me.

Congrats new Aggies.

I remember how nervous I was this time last year, especially since April is my birthday month. I still have my acceptance letter and the admissions packet lol.

Words of wisdom from a fellow transfer student:

Enjoy your time here. Yes, it can be boring but seek out things to do. There are always club activities, greek life, special interest groups, etc, flyers posted about the walls around campus. I live in Sac and commute each day so if Davis really isn’t your to your liking, a quick 10 min drive up I-80 to the city can help.

DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. One of the challenges I faced during my first two quarters wasn’t so much the material I was learning but the pace it all came in. For those on quarter systems already, it will be an easier (though still challenging) transition. I came from a semester system and the study techniques I used in CC certainly had to be readjusted and then readjusted some more. Ten weeks is going to FLY BY and before you know it, you’re living in Shields and popping 5 Hour energy drinks for finals lol. Stay ahead of things and your GPA, as well as your sanity, will thank you.

In my opinion, your success here (and any other place you transfer into for that matter) will depend on several variables. Your study habits, your professors, your TA’s (some are from hell, while others should be given awards) etc. Once you figure out how to make all the variables fit in place, you’ll be fine.

A big difference from CC to here is you’re expected to understand, comprehend, and apply what you learn to more complex situations in a given subject, not just regurgitate notes. Expand your thinking and you’ll do fine :).

With that said …

Don’t get discouraged. There will be times you study like a crackhead for an exam only to pull a C. Other times you’ll pop open a book before an exam (not recommended) and do fine. And of course there is the, “I thought I totally bombed that exam but the average was a 37 … out of 100. Dude, with the curve that was a C. Hell yeah!”

Seek help. Don’t let your pride get in your way (I know, we go to a UC, we don’t need help lol :)). But in all honesty, go to your TA’s office hours, set up study groups, and use the tutor services at the academic success center if you’re finding it hard to keep up. Trust me, you are not the only student on the campus who has, or still is, struggling at some point.

So, have fun, study hard, and enjoy your time as Aggies. Being an older student, I regret not doing things when I was younger but it just makes me appreciate it all the more now. Hope these tips help.

Peace.

@statmanaggie: Thanks for the words of wisdom! I will keep that in mind! =]
My brother also tells me that its hard to adjust from semester to quarter system. I’m sure it will be hard but I don’t know how hard. I actually tend to prefer the 6 week Winter/Summer sessions just because I retain all the information so much better than in a 16 week Spring/Fall semester. But I’m sure 4 classes will be tough, since the cap for winter and summer is only 2 classes.
