UC Davis, A good choice?

I am about to transfer to a University, and I receive two offers, UC Davis for Econ and Cal state Fullerton for business? What I want is to start a career in business and go to a Top MBA progam. Which university should be most helpful?

UC Davis.

I would be shocked if you got into a top mba program from a calstate school.

if you like cows, yes. but anything's better than fullerton.

my friend transfered from CALLB to Cal fullertion, she likes it.

And is UCD's ECON very competitive?

i'd go to davis just bc it seems like u'd be surrounded by more smart folks...and uh....focused people and more of a college experience

UCD > All Cal States

You need to be honest with yourself about where you're going and what you want to do. In all honesty, neither school gets many into the really top business schools. Clearly Davis is the way better school, but if you want to be an accountant, being an accounting major at a Cal State rather than a UC econ major could make sense. The accounting major will teach you a trade and get you a job. An econ major from a mid level UC leaves you with some employment questions. My cousin, graduating from Davis as an econ major, is going back to being a nanny which is what she did during her 2 cc years because it pays better than anything she was offered by people recruiting at Davis.

Thanks for all your guys's feed back. I agree with what suze said. What I worry about is just the employment questions after graduate. Econ is a theoretical major. It is true that davis has greater reputation than fullerton, however, it may not provide me with a job and high salary. But if I wanna get into a top mba program in the future, a background in davis will be more competitive, right?

lets put it this way; the only worthwhile major at the cal states is accounting, which you can get at certain UC's.

Nothing personal, but maybe that was the problem. Maybe she waited for people to recruit, instead of actively seeking them. The former president of the business club at UC Davis is 23 years old making $100K as an investment banker. The current president is working for New York Life and is set to accept a full-time position after graduation as an Econ major. It all depends on the person and the effort put into getting positions.

UC Davis is a great school.

Econ majors NEED graduate work to make any real cash.

I am deciding between econ at davis and econ at UCSD. I think I am going to choose UCSD because I think its program is better along with the name.

The UC San Diego name is good for sciences and possibly math, not econ or business.

SDSU is known for having far more local business connections than UCSD.

maybe because UCSD doesn't have a business program ::rolleyes::

An economics degree can get you almost any business job, you need to demonstrate that you are willing and capable of doing the work. Also, UCSD has concentrations in finance and management science.

ucsd is ranked top 10 among grad econ programs, and the same teachers teach undergrad, yet they dont have a good enough reputation?

I wouldnt discredit fullerton, possibly you guys want to look at alumni such as managing partners at all the major accounting firms, CEO's and senior execs from companies such as ups, smith barney etc etc. Maybe they dont get to be ibankers, but 99% of you here will get a job and not make it/hate it the majority wont get the job either way. Not to mention you have orange county which is thriving with some of the nations largest real estate investment firms, large bond/mutual funds, tech start ups, etc etc and beyond. Lots more job ops in orange/la county compared with san diego which has a few big names like brandes, cove etc etc, but nothing in comparison to what is just 60 miles north
