@kyle2015 Pretty similar here. Are you including Federal Loans in your calculation? I chose Community and Regional Development for my intended major at Davis, but UCLA and Berkeley are both Sociology. I’m not confident with Davis’s Sociology program. UCSB has a decent one though, so I hear. I had a professor at my CC who recently left her faculty position there and she had a lot of great things to say about UCSB. Then again, there’s the bias.
Accepted! Alhamdulillah.
I received notification somewhere between 2:50 and 3:05 PM.
Congrats to everyone who was accepted as well!
Admission Decision: Accepted!
UC GPA: 3.33 (Current), 3.69 (applied with in November)
Major Pre-reqs Completed (Y/N): N. Missing about 4
Intended Major: Computer Science
IGETC?: Will complete this spring quarter.
Personal statements: 1. Describe that feeling of hosting an “unsuccessful” fundraiser (only non-profit workers know about these) and the recovery of learning humility. 2. How everything I did, from even shadowing in the Hospital extensively, eventually has tied the art of Computer Science in my life.
College transferring from: Foothill College / De Anza College – (Quarter Systems)… FYI: Foothill is a lot better than De Anza. The extra travel time was definitely worth it (at least for me).
Extracurriculars & Honors/Awards (clubs, leadership, volunteer, work, certification): None on campus. All off campus. huge range: from religious, youth leadership, instructing arabic classes, delivering religious sermons and prayers, non-profit relief work (running my own fundraisers, million-dollar campaigns, shipping of containers of international Emergency Aid), serve as “Shura” board member of another domestic relief and Dawah non-profit, iOS app development and QA Testing, graphic designing and marketing, web development and database management, to interning / shadowing with internal medical doctor, a Surgeon, and a pulminerologist. Yup, my 4 years of post High school was fun. But now it’s time to focus, transfer, and get a degree for a change…

Hi everyone! Congratulations to those who got accepted! Do you guys know if we get like a package or anything in the mail?
Hey everyone, I’ve been accepted as a Psychology major and have A LOT of questions, as I’ve also been accepted into UCLA, but for my alternate major, which is Gender Studies. I’m not that interested in Gender Studies as I am more interested in the sciences. However, I REALLY like UCLA and have been dreaming of going there. I’m trying to weigh my pros and cons right now. Either way, I do plan on going to grad school, and people say my undergrad major shouldn’t effect my grad school plans much if at all. But I’m torn in two. My heart goes to the UCLA campus, but to the Psychology major, and right now I can’t have both.
I live in LA and UCLA just makes sense to me. I feel like I would be homesick at Davis. Also, I’m so used to the LA lifestyle. I’m by no means a party person (like, at all), but I still feel like I might get bored at Davis? But Davis is offering me admission into my first-choice major, and even though I’d try to change my major at UCLA, there’s no guarantee. Also, Davis is offering me a much better financial aid package. I qualify for Blue and Gold so I’d be paying next to nothing.
I don’t know. Someone convince me to go to Davis. How does their Psychology Department rank compared to other UCs? Are there a lot of opportunities for research? What is the social environment like there?
All help is appreciated!
Admitted!

@sammycatt When I visited Davis I thought the community vibe was a lot like Westwood Village minus the car traffic (substitute bicycles), no highrises looming of course, and no pockets of intense wealth nearby. Twinkled street trees, pedestrians enjoying the shops, patio dining, and charming old houses adjacent. Have you walked down Marine Ave. on Balboa Island ever? Like that. I LOVED Davis, but I’ve been a Bruin fan all my life, and still i might go to Cal if I hear I’m admitted. These decisions are difficult. I’m middle class, so given the opportunity for a less expensive, yet excellent quality option (and in my major), Davis would be hard for me to pass up.
@MaMoi77 Thank you for the advice! I haven’t visited Davis yet so I haven’t been able to make a fair judgment. I’m planning to drive there in a few weeks. The way you describe it makes it sound a lot nicer than I was imagining. The pictures don’t really show a fair representation. And you’re right, practically a free ride for a major I love would be stupid to pass up.
@sammycatt the Davis campus is one of the best UC campuses! Its beautiful there…when u visit its gonna be easier to make the choice lol
@sammycatt the Davis community is way better than I expected and it has a great feel. It actually is the epitome of a college town. That said, there’s no way I could compare it to westwood and UCLA. So I’m not 100% sure how you’ll feel at Davis. The biggest potential difference is the proximity to cultural things, meaning Davis is pretty isolated. And flat. That may or may not be an issue.
@2015transfer Thanks! I hope so. Because this is a really tough decision for me right now!
@lindyk8 Yeah, hiking is my favorite activity. Flatness would really bother me. ):
I guess what is really tearing me apart is… I love UCLA. Campus, culture, location, everything. But… UCD is actually offering me my major. /:
