If I took the first physics class (out of 3 in the series), what are the chances of me having to retake the first class again at Davis? Do you think I can advance to the second level after transferring without having to retake anything?
I applied for the Regent's Scholarship back in January, and my GPA was a little bit under the minimum GPA (3.77). Do you think I would still be considered or am I automatically out because my GPA wasn't at least 3.8?
@autumnfairy What is your major? The first physics class at a CCC will probably correlate with 7A. Most bio sci type majors require the 7 series. If you are in any engineering, you will have to take the whole 9 series. Because Physics at UCD is challenging for many people, you might want to start a series from the beginning. You will have to talk with an advisor in your major after admission before registering for classes for the best advice. Also, UCD has some really great tutors for math and science classes - People should not hesitate to get their help. My older brother is a PhD grad student in Comp Sci & Engineering at UCD (been there since he was a freshman), so I have this info from a good source.
I’m missing the most pre reqs for davis, I’m going for applied math and am an OOS applicant. Missing a Data & structures course and some physics or chem course. I’ve taken physics mechanics and E&M and Gen Chem in highschool (AP) and two different colleges because nothing transferred between. I probably won’t go to Davis even if I get in because I might have to repeat the physics and chem sequence. I’m tired of taking the same lower division physics or chem course and do not want to take them for the fourth time, so good luck to whoever has Davis as their number one choice.
@Xaeyvr The Applied Math major at Davis does require a whole lot of mathematics classes (of course), but is pretty open-minded about what Chem and Physics classes you choose as part of your preparatory requirements. For instance, the department’s site states: “One two-quarter sequence from Physics 9A-9B; Biological Sciences 2A-2B; Chemistry 2A-2B; Economics 1A-1B; Statistics 32, 100; or other applied preparatory courses approved by your adviser” So, the way I read it, you only need one of the sequences, and that can be your choice - including statistics or economics, which an applied math person might prefer and already have taken classes that would transfer.
Hey guys!
Has anyone who has a TAG with Davis heard anything back yet? I noticed some schools have already sent acceptance letters to students who had a TAG but I have not received anything since my TAG was accepted. Im hoping this is normal?
@DavisCowsRule: I am hoping for the best honestly! I realized I actually applied with a 3.23 gpa instead of 3.11, so I still have a chance??? I completed all of my prereqs, and I was only worrying about IGETC becauseI heard it’d only better my chances. I just have to see from here on out
@penguinluver good luck man! I’m around the same gpa (3.24) but i’ve had everything done (igetc, 60+ units, pre-reqs) since the end of the fall 2014 term. I’m a sociology major and I’ve already been accepted to UCSB so i am beyond excited about that, but i’m also interested in UC Davis. Hopefully we can both hear some great news this coming friday
I’ve seen many ppl with gpa’s both higher and lower than ours accepted to davis…so at least we have that going for us. And remember it isn’t always strictly about GPA, keep that in mind.
The UCD Regents Scholarship requires that transfers have a minimum GPA of 3.8, and also is based upon personal accomplishments and a letter of recommendation.
Chance me if you will
Major: Philosophy
GPA: 3.44
IGETC: Yes, in the spring
Pre Reqs: all done
TAG: No
Applied: UCSC, UCD, UCSD, UCLA, UCR, UCB
Accepted: UCSC,UCR
Rejected: None yet
April 17th needs to get here sooner! Davis is my first choice and I can’t wait any longer! Lol
I’m an English major and I believe that English is not impacted at Davis so hopefully that works in my favor. Also, I was involved A LOT in high school and we were able to put that on our transfer application so hopefully that helps me out! Anyone else REALLY impatient?
