Uc davis fall 2016 transfer thread

Hey, does anyone know if when the TAG says that you must maintain a 3.20 GPA, it means maintaining a 3.20 at the end of each quarter or maintaining a 3.20 by the time you transfer? If I get a C in one of my current classes, my cumulative GPA will slip down to a 3.19…

You should ask a rep honestly, I would assume by the time you transfer but no harm in double checking with a professional.

UC Agreement says:

“You must MAINTAIN a GPA of 3.20 or higher for all UC-transferable units taken prior to transfer enrollment.”

So you might be in trouble, but check with your TAG counselor. They usually respond to emails very quick, you can find your respective counselor here:

Good luck

Uh ok so yeah I’m going to get involved with the thread because I am hoping to get in. I’m optimistic.

Chances of getting into UCSB and UCSC? Suggestions? Feedback?

What are you guys planning on doing in terms of housing?

@Emteaaa what do you mean?
@sperry11 your chances are pretty good. SC I’d say 90%. SB around 65-70%

@Emteaaa I’m curious about this too. I’m looking at SHA housing, but it’s soooooo expensive. I want to live in student housing for transfers because then I can be among other students, be close to the school, and it’s guaranteed. It depends if I get enough grants to cover housing as well. I don’t want to go into massive debt over student housing. I was also thinking of renting a room in town somewhere, but I hear housing like that gets filled up really fast.
The downside that I can really think of about living in student housing is that it might be really noisy and i’m wondering what it’s like on a daily basis. I need quiet to study, but if I have noisy neighbors its not a big deal - I can just go to the library to study or whatever.
I keep trying to find some kind of youtube video tours of what the inside of the housing looks like and I haven’t found much :frowning:

@Countchocula25 @boxandwhiskers Are you guys planning to live off-campus or are you going to do transfer housing? My original plan was to do off-campus housing, but my housemate situation is a bit tricky since 3/5 of us did not TAG, so we’d have to wait until April to sign leases when apartments are supposedly filling up quickly. My plan now is to just try to find a decent single bedroom =\ but no luck so far so this has been stressful haha. Anyone have some tips or pointers? I guess my last resort would be SHA but like you’ve said, it’s quite pricey.

@Emteaaa I’m thinking that if I can’t find a room to rent off-campus, the last resort would be to just go with the SHA and deal with it for a year but then the next year start early and find off-campus housing. The issue is that I live almost 2 hours away from Davis right now, so it’s hard to find housing when I don’t already have a job or live anywhere close to take my time finding housing off-campus. If worse comes to worse, I can live on campus and then search early for a room to rent from Craigslist while i’m already in town.

I’m also wondering about having a car. It looks like generally parking your car on campus and keeping it there long term is not possible or really hard. If I need to get a job in Sacramento, it’ll be a drag to take a bus to work and back from Davis.

@Emteaaa I plan on living on campus. Price isn’t much of a concern to me. I pretty much already know how much I’m getting in grants and how much I have left after tuition. I won’t be taking too much out in loans to pay for it.

@boxandwhiskers I’m thinking the same way. Do you know how much housing costs through SHA? I’m not too sure about on campus housing with a car, but there should be plenty of street parking in regards to off campus housing so I’ve seen. The only issue is the quarter parking permits which are pricey!

@Countchocula25 I’m hoping for a good amount in grants as well! Good luck to ya! :slight_smile:

@Emteaaa thanks you too:)

@Emteaaa This is the link to the chart that lists the housing costs. I really really don’t want to share a room with another person, so that comes to about $10,900 for a year with no meal plan (for a single occupancy).

Also, is anyone planning on going to the TOP event at Davis February 26th?

I’m planning on staying in SHA the first year where hopefully I can make some friends, from there ill see if anyone is interested in doing off-campus housing the next year

Do you guys know if changing planned courses affects TAG agreements for admission? I enrolled in a psychobiology class and found out this morning that it’s only CSU transferable. Not sure if this affects admission in anyway as well but if it does I’d like to enroll in a different class.

@Emteaaa psychobiology should be UC transferable that’s weird. But idk about tag. These other people should know

@Emteaaa I took a Bio Psych class and it’s UC transferrable, I can’t imagine your class would be much different than the one I took. If you’re taking different courses in the Spring than the ones you listed when you submitted your TAG, it’s okay. Make sure that the classes you’re actually enrolled in are reflected on the TAU and on your UC application. Spring grades are not factored into Admissions (only Fall grades are really looked at), but they want to make sure that you have finished your major requirements by the end of Spring.
