UC Davis or UC Irvine

Hi guys!

So I got accepted to UC Davis and UC Irvine and my major is International Relations.
I’m wondering which school will be a better choice for me.

I currently live in the bay area but I love here so I wouldn’t bother going UCD (I’m an international student)
but at the same time I kinda want to explore and experience SoCal vibe as well.

I have friends in UCD and housing and stuff is semi-completed, however the tuition is really expensive. But Davis is near to Sacramento, which is the capital of the state and I think working for state government will be helpful for me to build up my career.

On the other hand, I don’t know anyone in UCI and nothing isn’t really completed around that area. I have acquaintances down south so that will be good. But at the same time it worries me a bit since I’m an international student and there are lots of Asians in UCI. But then if you think that way, Asian students are everywhere so… :stuck_out_tongue:

Please please please give any advice, encouragement, critics and I’ll be happy to see it.

Thank you!

Both schools are outstanding. Davis is a great college town - very different than the Bay Area. UCI is in Orange County, not a college town but, a very nice place to be…

Both schools have significant Asain populations. I don’t understand your question on that front.

Since you live in CA, tour both and see which one feels like home.

Tuition for UCD and UCI is the same, so I do not understand your statement. Being closer to the state capital may be more beneficial for your major. I don’t understand you comment about housing being semi-completed since the new dorms in Tercero have been completed. They are tearing down some old housing in the area. Like @NCalRent stated, visit both and see which one is the best fit.

Well as everyone has said, you need to tour the campuses.
If you are an international student, on a specific visa, you may not be allowed to work in the US, especially at the State Capitol, so you can’t use that to help your decision. Most visas allow you to work on campus but not outside of the campus.

Agreed re: demographics. Who cares about the make-up of the student populations? (I’m Asian American…it never affected any of my college decisions). No one is going to pigeonhole you or force you to do certain things based on your ethnicity.
I went to Davis, and if you don’t have a car, Sacramento is NOT close. You could take a bus, but it wouldn’t be convenient, especially since classes can start as early as 7 and go as late as 9 pm.
Honestly, I’ve spent a lot of time on both campuses and they are very similar. UCI is a little smaller and doesn’t have that same country feel as Davis. Just look up how alumni in your field are doing, consider the financial aspects, and make your decision based on that.
