UC Davis Transfer Fall 2018--Discussion Post

hey guys I got my regents invite today for Davis. Anyone else??

Will the people that TAG’ed be the first ones to know whether or not they were accepted?

I’m so anxious! I just want to find out if I got in already! I also got my regents e-mail yesterday. It would be pretty cruel if they sent our regents e-mail just to end up rejecting you… =((

Do any of you plan on going to Picnic Day @ Davis?

Does anyone know if they look at personal insight questions for deciding if a student receives regents or not? Or is it strictly based off of academic achievement?

@choukevin They look at EC’s, personal insight questions and your LOR, as well as your academic achievement.

I called UC Davis today and they just emailed me back saying that they are having technical difficulties that isn’t allowing applicants to sign in and they will make adjustments to the deadline

do you have a source? @BBoy99 not that I don’t trust you, but I haven’t been able to find somewhere that says they look at personal insight questions, just “academic achievement”

@ericbadmon as you can tell from the previous posts, no one but you got regents. Good sh1t.

@choukevin “do you have a source?”, “not that I don’t trust you”, use GOOGLE.

@choukevin Also, if you want a “source”, look at the UC Davis regents website. To receive an offer is based mainly on GPA and personal achievement. To receive the scholarship is a whole different story.

I want to add my two cents for those of you comparing UCSB to UCD.
I recently toured all the UCs I applied to (UCSB, UCD, UCLA and UCB) and I actually thought the davis campus was quite nice, especially in comparison to Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara has a great location sure, but the buildings are very old and rundown looking, like they were paid with the bare minimum of government funding… Also, their private lagoon looked more like a swamp when I was there lol :frowning:
Davis has a lot of new buildings, housing is way more affordable, the downtown area is chill, and the people are really nice. If you like animals it’s a great place and they have a really awesome equestrian center (the only UC with one), if that’s something you’re into.
Even though I was accepted to UCSB, I would still choose Davis over it just because I liked the atmosphere more and they have a better program for what I want to do. Obviously it’s all personal preference, but I think it’s good to consider where you would personally fit in the best, regardless of the schools prestige.

I got my regents email also yesterday. I think they want to determine who is really interested in joining UCD with this tedious process.
Think about it - 3 Essays + 1 LOR + EC + Job details.
It is almost as much work as a new application. Only those who are truly committed to UCD will go through this exercise. Otherwise, they can assume that the student is only using UCD as a ‘safety’ school and will most likely go elsewhere if they have an option.
The last part is only my guess. I would not be surprised if those who don’t fill out the regents application get their admission denied, however, it will be really cruel if they reject you even after you do all this legwork.

@Anhionring9 I realize that, I have already received regents for UCI and UCR. Don’t know why you would tell me to google something when it just tells me the same thing but whatever

@cricketfan I def agree, by making another process they can weed out all of the people that actually are interested in attending UCD

Question to everyone that got their regents: do any of you plan on not filling out the application for regents? I am debating whether to fill it out or not…

@ohbeebee so glad I saw your post! I applied to the same UCs and haven’t taken time to tour any of the campuses yet. I applied to SB thinking how cool it would be to go to school near the water but after your assessment, I think I would choose Davis over SB too. I love living in LA but mentally preparing myself to stay open minded. I’m a Comm major and not sure how popular it is at Davis.

@cricketfan I think you may be on to something here but I would hope they don’t think someone’s not interested simply because they didn’t want to fill out another application for scholarship. I’m going to fill it out and use essays I’ve alreasy typed for other scholarships so it won’t be hard.

You’re right though. Davis isn’t my number one choice but if I did get rejected after all that I would be pissed. Lol

If someone hasn’t heard yet, is that bad news? Or are they sending out notices in bunches?
If someone didn’t get the invite to go for the regents, is that another sign not to hold one’s breath?
TIA.

What were your stats?
